"According to a 2017 analysis co-authored by Shanna, the Western world’s collective swimmers have been taking a dive — between 1973 and 2011, there was a 59% decrease in sperm count." "Rates of miscarriages are on the rise and girls are experiencing earlier and earlier puberties (in some cases before the age of 8). “In some parts of the world, the average twenty-something woman today is less fertile than her grandmother was at 35,” Swan writes." "It’s no wonder then that the assisted reproduction technology market is worth about $21 billion and is projected to increase by 10 percent annually until 2025." "In teens and young adults, testosterone levels have dropped. Hence, the soaring testosterone replacement industry." "But according to Shanna, “90 percent of men can have their sperm counts drop to zero while they’re on it.” "Chemicals in our environment and unhealthy lifestyle practices in our modern world are disrupting our hormonal balances, causing various degrees of reproductive havoc." "These chemicals include phthalates and bisphenol-A, which are found in ordinary items like plastics, pesticides, cosmetics and even some receipts, according to Axios. Phthalates, which can make plastics flexible and allow beauty products to absorb scents have been linked to a decrease in the production of hormones like testosterone, according to a 2015 study from the National Library of Medicine." “If you look at the curve on sperm count and project it forward–which is always risky–it reaches zero in 2045. … The current state of reproductive affairs can’t continue much longer without threatening human survival.” redstate.com/alexparker/2021/02/26/countdown-an-expert-predicts-the-wests-sperm-count-will-soon-be-zero-n333650"Count Down: How Our Modern World Is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male and Female Reproductive Development, and Imperiling the Future of the Human Race" www.amazon.com/Count-Down-Threatening-Reproductive-Development/dp/1982113669/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Count+Down%3A+How+Our+Modern+World+is+Threatening+Sperm+Counts%2C+Altering+Male+and+Female+Reproductive+Development%2C+and+Imperiling+the+Future+of+the+Human+Race&qid=1614374777&sr=8-1 "It Reaches Zero In 2045’: Scientist Makes Startling Prediction About Sperm Counts" dailycaller.com/2021/02/26/sperm-count-declining-fertility-rate-decline/

An inverted Handsmaid’s Tale where it’s the dudes who are shooting blanks so the few fertile ones have to be kept as chattel while the remainder are considered redundant and useless to society.

The global fertility rate — the number of births per woman — has fallen from 5.06 in 1964 to 2.4 in 2018.
She is blaming this on chemicals mainly, well according to the articles on her book and her past papers on the subject, but there are numerous factors connected to falling birth rates that appear largely unconnected to sperm counts. The advent of birth control, the global urbanization shift, changing cultural preferences for smaller families, later in age pregnancy and higher child-raising costs all play a part in most people in most places actively deciding to have fewer children. And she's not the first to comment on and try and say its chemicals doing this. Extrapolating all this to mean a total loss of fertility in 14 years is a bit of leap imo
Though it could be just the usual shoddy science journalism that pervades these days, not having read the book only the back cover.

"Dr. Swan has worked for over twenty-five years to understand the threats posed by chemicals to our environment and our health, and, when necessary, to develop new paradigms to assess their risks. Of most concern to Dr. Swan are the chemicals that our bodies can confuse with its own hormones (the “endocrine disrupting” chemicals). At the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Swan is working with a wide range of collaborators, including epidemiologists, biostatisticians, toxicologists, geneticists and systems biologists, to conduct studies and develop methods to evaluate the risks from such chemicals — methods that are sensitive enough to tease out the often subtle health effects of complex mixtures." www.mountsinai.org/profiles/shanna-h-swan

You know that this is all panic-mongering by the anti-choicer anti-woman brigade who’re going to claim that we have to force women to carry pregnancies to term even if they’re going to be terrible parents who’d have hated their kids anyway but will also resent the sh*t out of them because of being forced into parenthood by the freedom haters. And then they’ll use it as a “We have to stop birth control” stick after that.

“It is not far-fetched to imagine some possible technology such that, first, virtually all sufficiently advanced civilizations eventually discover it, and second, its discovery leads almost universally to existential disaster.”

Looking at her publication list its obvious she's a very focused on chemicals in the environment and the dangers she sees from that, but you can't help but wonder if this focus may be leading her to some level of confirmation bias where sees everything through that lense.
Again zero fertility in 14 years appears unlikely and more than a tad alarmist.
I can't see anything to indicate she's in the corner of the forced pregnancy take away a woman's bodily autonomy lot, but its certainly possible

She's probably an eco-extremist freaking out about chemicals and medicine everywhere. But her research getting leapt on by the likes of Red State suggests that it's going to be used by the fascist brigade as material in their war to force women to do their bidding.

Interesting how right wing fascists and left wing fascists coalesce and attack each other.
