After 20 years and trillions of $ that's probably right, support for US continuation in Afghanistan has not has majority public support for well over a decade, not since the early days of the invasion, they've tried everything and nothing worked, while they might have got out a bit cleaner, it was never going to be that clean a get a way. And still the hawks are saying the US should have stayed, its mind boggling really.

Wah! Wah! I really wish Trump was still president. He'd have overseen an orderly withdrawal and transition to a fully democratic and progressive Afghanistan! I was so wrong about Biden! Wah! Wah! Finally come around I see.

would anyone want to try to explain why biden would cancel a program specifically designed to handle contingencies like this right before he orders a bugout?

yep its a mystery, it would be almost as bad as if someone got rid of the teams tasked to protect the nation from a future pandemic just hours before a pandemic hit. Guess the future is opaque or something...

"Uganda yet to decide on taking in Afghan refugees The government in Uganda says it is yet to decide whether it will take in 2,000 Afghan refugees, local media there is reporting.
It comes after reports that the country would temporarily host them after a request made by the US.
"No decision has been made, whether they will come or not. It's a suggestion, a proposal, discussions are going on... no substantive decision has been made," Daily Monitor reported Gen Jeje Odongo, from the foreign affairs committee, as saying on Thursday.
He said that Uganda had been approached because it had a reputation internationally of helping people in distress.
Uganda has a long history of welcoming refugees, and is currently home to around 1.3 million people.
The East African nation has the largest number of refugees in any country in Africa - and the third largest in the world."
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck me.

I'd be worried. Uganda is a breeding ground for dangerous extremism. Priti Patel's family emigrated from there, for example.

I'm saying tough sh*t to those in the military who are complaining that "abandoning" Afghanistan has left them feeling "grief and rage". Strategy decisions shouldn't be made on the basis of whether they'll hurt the feelings of soldiers. of course they are suffering from grief and rage. they put their lives on the line to protect a populace under 7th century barbarism and to keep al qaeda at bay. they were killed and maimed doing so. then biden decides to sh*t all over them. you never served, so i can never expect you to understand what they are feeling right now. after all their sacrifices for all those years, they are going to see the taliban flag over the us embassy on 9/11. and you will sit in your easy chair and piss on them and tell them tough sh*t. the way biden has done this is vietnam all over again.

So, you’re agreeing with the Tory MP that we should have stayed in Afghanistan forever propping up a failed regime in order to protect the feelings of these servicemen?

Republican congressmen voting against letting Afghan refugees in, less than two weeks ago… let’s hope they don’t make a fuss about it now.
