Here's Biden just over a month ago. Either American intelligence and analyses is utterly, utterly shite (doubtful) or Biden and his carers are raving idiots. The madness starts at 13:30.

So when Trump surrender to the Taliban ge said please be nice or we'll be very very cross with you.
Consequences my arse, does anyone who not completely deranged think Trump would have reinvaded at this point, a point everyone saw coming, even if their time line was a few months to get to this rather than a few weeks?

The world's media ('cept the BBC of course) are united in utter condemnation of Biden. mol.im/a/9897611 New York Post editorial says Mr Biden's claims that he 'inherited' Donald Trump's withdrawal plans were a 'lie'exactly. trump told the taliban in no uncertain terms retaliation would be very severe if they tried what they are now doing. biden said 'meh, do what you want.' So basically Trump said that he'd never withdraw and was committed to US troops staying in Afghanistan indefinitely, and you support that position?

Doesn't matter what Trump would or wouldn't have done. He's not the President.

Not "what he would have done". It's "what he did". He set this up. He negotiated defeat to the Taliban after freeing them.

Well it matters that he was the one who set this up, he was the one who surrendered to the Taliban and had wanted them at Camp David.

The execution of the last few troops leaving has been shite, but no one expected the collapse to be weeks. Sure once Trump surrendered this was inevitable, but most thought months.
It was a poison challce, leave and this was inevitable, or surge again and stay there for ever.
As someone said earlier when asked what they would have done 'well I wouldn't have started from here'

Dunno about this. The Yanks' position seems to have been that they set the Afghan government forces up with training, infrastructure and kit so they should have been able to look after themselves especially if the US continued to provide air support. Shadows of Nam, indeed. Now, Johnny Mullah is clever enough to have worked out that what the NVA was to grab their enemy by the belt, rendering air support very difficult. So, is it possible that the Yanks knew this to? If they could have held the NVA back in the 1970s, wouldn't they have done so? Certainly they tried as they continued to lose aircrews well into the 70s.
Also, if air power could have won in Afghanistan, why hasn't it done so already and what gave them any reason to think it would after they left.
The facts are that they knew that they couldn't help the Afghan military. It's also clear that they didn't want to. They've left 'em to it. Turned their backs.
"Nothing like Saigon"? Fuxk right off. It's far, far worse. The reputatianal l damage and loss of prestige is awful.
Done no harm? Ask the 7,000 or so US and NATO families that have lost lived ones.

I seriously doubt that US intelligence had no idea the collapse could take weeks. It's been well known for years that the Afghan army are shite. Under or not paid; nowhere near the 300,000 that Biden confidently states in the video (commanders making up the numbers then pocketing the pay); pish-poor morale; terrible logistics etc etc etc. Biden has set Afghanistan, the US and the West in general back decades and all the but-the-other-guy whining in the world won't change that.

Biden has done Johnny Afghan hard and dry up the Khyber, without so much as the goddamm common decency to give him a reach-around.
