There's that too. Usually I serve the wine until they gain confidence and start serving themselves, but this year we're not doing wine on account of the covid; a couple of glasses and they start spitting everywhere.

Our house is of no particular architectural interest, a 17c farmhouse retaining few of its original features having been modernised several times a la France, but yeah, they do like to nose around.

Although I think, "I'm in the band" also works. That always very much depended on the band. If it was Led Zep or the Stones it was fine. If it was Five Star or the Wedding Band, then less so. |

Thanksgiving is a weird old holiday, but it’s great. It lasts no more than one day, you see a few people, you eat a lot, everyone fucks off home, there’s no religion or presents or guilt or even real commercialization.
And it acts as a hard barrier that prevents the Christmas creep. Christmas lights basically don’t go up until this weekend at the earliest.

It must be a burden on the NA Indians having to supply you all with turkeys every year. Bernard Matthews is not a First Nations American. We had a flock (?) of turkeys that kept coming through our garden all summer - 17 of them - and they didn't look particularly tasty. Having once been served a "heritage" bird for Thanksgiving I now believe that the turkeys that the pilgrims ate were probably rubbish and we have to be grateful that we're getting farmed ones now rather than having Pocahontas and Crazy Horse coming round and dropping one off each November. |

I am up early because I was awoken by my cats who decided to literally demonstrate the term "a cat and mouse game". Oddly, the idiom doesn't seem to match the reality, unless the idiom means that three much bigger animals stand around a small, terrified dying one and taunt it and them smack it really hard around the bedroom, then wait for it to move a bit and then give it another massive smack, until, after half an hour (and who knows how long before they got it into the bedroom) they finally finish it off with a massive smack against the wall leaving a big splatter of mouse blood on the floor next to the missus's side of the bed, resulting in me being put on clean up duty for both blood and mouse carcass.
