That's a good point except that it seems an impossible task to get that genie back in the bottle - even if the gun nuts could be persuaded to grow the f**k up.
That being said, perhaps we should have more faith and ambition. It must be doable.

I suppose you have to ask the question about whether guns are just to preferred tools and the real problems is about people going postal in the first place.

Jesus Christ another one?! (for some reason this headline read like some sad story tale to me.)
“ The gunman is believed to have acted alone and is dead, he said.”
The possibly couldn’t have taken him alive / he killed himself which is a shame. It’s so bizarre that yet another very young man decides to take out his issues with the world on a bunch of other people.

too many on the right stop all efforts to save kids lives, I think the US are resigned to the fact that the right like guns more than their children.

Yeah, the guns make it worse and should be removed from society, but this isn't just about guns.
