Glottal stops. I keep hearing people changing the way they speak and not expecting to be laughed at. Worse still, educated slebs are doing it as if it's not ridiculous. Claudia Winkelman was doing it, unironically, on that programme she was hosting recently. She's the privately-educated, Oxbridge daughter of millionaires. She's the daughter of la Bollard FFS.

Glo'al stops are queer. When I was a ki, I mean child, I glottal stopped all over the place. I'd feel embarrassed to say "wa'er or "bu'er" now.

Claudia Winkelman looks like she's made from clay. I was surprised how young she is. I had assumed she was mid-50s. She seems to have managed a wierd mutton dressed as mutton dressed as lamb effect, I think. |
