And so it starts. "Wah! I didn't win! Wah!" Maybe the film's just shite. Or maybe it's a perfectly serviceable work of film fiction but there are better films. "US actress Danielle Deadwyler has claimed the film industry is "deeply impacted by systemic racism", after no black women were nominated for best actress at this year's Oscars. Deadwyler was expected to be recognised for her performance in the drama Till. But she missed out on a nomination, as did Viola Davis, who was also widely tipped to be in the running." www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64557717

I have no doubt that the academy is basically racist. But it's weird to complain that there were no black actors nominated this year. There are also often no Asian or Hispanic nominees, yet somehow that never gets the same "they're racist" reaction. Which is odd, because Hollywood is one of those places where the historical structural barriers to black people that don't exist for Hispanic or Asians in the US (yes, slavery) don't really exist in the same way as most of the country. In fact - and as can be seen by the two movies mentioned here - Hollywood is making films that are about the black experience in the US when they tend not to about Asian and Hispanic (or Native American or Pacific Islander or whatever).

I think you're right. Hollywood is definitely anti-white and probably anti- Chinese and Korean too.

Pretty rigorous entry requirements for Hollywood. You need to be completely au fait and part and parcel with what goes on there before you stand a chance. Most don't survive the 'apprenticeship'.

just found this letter ...Mr Angry đ
I found this from over a dozen years ago, and itâs still relevant, I guess! âWorkingâ from home allows so much frustration to spill over â on the British Citizen that is, not the10-4 skiverâŚ
AN ACTUAL PASSPORT LETTER SENT:
Dear Sirs,
Iâm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this.
How is it that Sky Television has my address and telephone number and knows that I bought a bleeding satellite dish from them back in 1977, and yet, the Government is still asking me where I was bloody born and on what date.
For goodness sake, do you guys do this by hand? My birth date you have on my pension book, and it is on all the income tax forms Iâve filed for the past 30 years. It is on my National Health card, my driving licence, my car insurance, on the last eight damn passports Iâve had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms Iâve had to fill out before being allowed off the plane over the last 30 years, and all those insufferable census forms.
Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my motherâs name is Mary Anne, my fatherâs name is Robert and Iâd be abso-f**k**g-lutely astounded if that ever changed between now and when I die!
I apologise, Iâm really pissed off this morning. Between you anâ me, Iâve had enough of this bullshit! You send the application to my house, then you ask me for my address!
What is going on? Do you have a gang of Neanderthal arseholes workinâ there? Look at my damn picture. I just want to go and park my arse on some sandy beach somewhere. And would someone please tell me, why would you give a sh*t whether I plan on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? If I ever got the urge to do something weird to a chicken or a goat, believe you me, youâd be the last people Iâd want to tell!
Well, I have to go now, âcause I have to go to the other end of the poxy city to get another copy of my birth certificate, to the tune of ÂŁ30. Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the same spot to assist in the issuance of a new passport the same day?? Nooooo, thatâd be too damn easy and maybe makes sense. Youâd rather have us running all over the place like chickens with our heads cut off, then have to find some arsehole to confirm that itâs really me on the damn picture â you know, the one where weâre not allowed to smile?! (bureaucratic morons) Hey, do you know why we couldnât smile if we wanted to? Because weâre totally pissed off!
Signed
An Irate Citizen.
P.S. Remember what I said above about the picture and getting someone to confirm that itâs me? Well, my family has been in this country since 1776. I have served in the military for something over 30 years and have had full security clearances over 25 of those years enabling me to undertake highly secretive missions all over the world.
However, I have to get someone âimportantâ to verify who I am â you know, someone like my doctor WHO WAS BORN AND RAISED SOMEPLACE I NEVER HEARD OF!
Sincerely,

Roald Dahl books rewritten to remove language deemed offensive. linkHundreds of changes were made to the original text â and some passages not written by Dahl have been added. In The Witches, a paragraph explaining that witches are bald beneath their wigs ends with the new line: âThere are plenty of other reasons why women might wear wigs and there is certainly nothing wrong with that.â Wokism's now causing literature of the past to be rewritten: how long before nothing resembles the original and the subtlety and deeper sense of some works are lost?

given the rights propensity to ban as many books as possible, they might have had to make these stupid changes to keep the books on the shelf and off the bonfire.

What Mids said. Banning books one finds offensive is not unique to those who are Woke. That said I am not sure what the issue is? The books are still available. The Road Dahl Book Company have reviewed the language in the books and made edits. People taking issue with that are rather suspect to me.

What do you put on your CV to get the gig of 'Sensitivity Reader'?
Sounds like jolly good fun, although you'd have to call yourself a proofreader when anyone asked what you did for a living.
Otherwise you'd look like a ŧwat.

Because people, well "certain" people, will get the idea that they can and should go through life with the right not to be offended. That's bad because it restricts enquiry and discussion of ideas. Etc.

Worse still, they insist that they have the right to be offended on behalf of others.
