I got my first bit of post with a Charles stamp on it yesterday. It looks very weird after a half century of changing Liz silhouettes.

Look. I was trying really hard to not just be entirely negative and mean on this thread, which is my instinct on this subject. That's the best I could do.

Looks like England is getting it's scone back. It's good to see the BBC headlines including really important stuff - Baloo always complains that it's full of wishy-washy non stories so is good to see this in contrast. www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-65411666

It's referred to (albeit somewhat obliquely) in Shakespeare, so it must be awesome - in spite of its being the size of a piece of gravel.

The Stone of Destiny (also known also known as The Stone of Scone) is highly divisive. For one thing, should you put the jam or the cream on it first?
Moggy? Over to you.

It's not a great stone, as stones go is it? It's the best one Scotland had left after we took the marbles from Elgin.

What does that say about the English aristocracy? Stealing toys from a child!

Interesting that we're being asked to:
a) chant "May the King live forever" and b) swear allegiance to the Crown.
I shall do neither. The former is impossible and almost certainly unhelpful. The latter is unnecessary for civilians and, as I haven't needed to do it before, I won't be doing it now.

I can see why "God Save the King" is problematic in a largely post-religious society, but what's wrong with "Long Live the King"?

Swearing allegiance to stuff is daft but the idea of it makes the left puce with impotent fury so that's good.

Mids comes to the actual truth. The only value in having a monarchy is that it’s for trolling, and the only thing the right cares about any more is trolling.

Of course, the loyal pledge is unnecessary for those who have already made it, as it extends to "Her Majesty's heirs and successors".
Sod that. One of 'em might be ginger.

It is true, as you say, that all the left are good for these days is being mocked.

Anyway, another comment about King Charles. My parents recently celebrated an impressive landmark anniversary and if you apply to the palace they’ll send a card congratulating you on the longevity of your marriage.
Which is very nice. But it’s not just from the palace or the monarch now. It was from the king and queen consort, “signed” by both of them and with a picture of them both.
A friend commented that it’s pretty damned ironic that you get a commemoration of the longevity of your marriage from two of the most famously unfaithful people in the country.

They've been very faithful to each other, I suppose.
