Not since they first hooked up they haven’t. They both married and sired offspring with others.

Weird things, parents. I only discovered after their deaths that my mother was a divorcee and that I might have half-siblings somewhere.

This Be The Verse BY PHILIP LARKIN
They f**k you up, your mum and dad. They may not mean to, but they do. They fill you with the faults they had And add some extra, just for you.
But they were f**k*d up in their turn By fools in old-style hats and coats, Who half the time were soppy-stern And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Get out as early as you can, And don’t have any kids yourself.

That is odd. My dad's mum had an illegitimate child so my auntie was really my half auntie. It was kept a secret for years and even now some of my cousins are reluctant to talk about it, which is just nuts.

We're all getting to an age now where the previous generation is popping off and there's nobody to stop the skeletons cascading from cupboards. Just about every time there's a WTF revelation e.g. my mate's cousin is actually his brother, my wife's grandparents had never married, etc.

Anyway, another comment about King Charles. My parents recently celebrated an impressive landmark anniversary and if you apply to the palace they’ll send a card congratulating you on the longevity of your marriage. Which is very nice. But it’s not just from the palace or the monarch now. It was from the king and queen consort, “signed” by both of them and with a picture of them both. A friend commented that it’s pretty damned ironic that you get a commemoration of the longevity of your marriage from two of the most famously unfaithful people in the country. It is rather bemusing. I wonder how all those who bemoan relationship breakdown and single parent families cope with knowing that exact situation is one our current head of state has personal experience of…. *Side note - Camilla must give hope to side chicks everywhere…..

My family is boring - no skeletons whatsoever.

I know of a skeleton in a family close to ours though. Good friend of my brother going back to childhood does not know his father is not his father. He’s almost 40 and has no idea. A handful of people know (my brother is not one) but he doesn’t. That’s what caused his parents separation when his non-biological father discovered the truth. But he still has no idea.

I was actually really disappointed to discover doing the DNA test stuff that my family wasn’t bullshitting me.
They’re exactly the kind to invent family lore and overhype things and make it all up. Yet everything seemed to track. It was so boring.

They look like the kind of stamps that the old DDR put out in the 50s, 60s and 70s, but then East Germany was broke, corrupt, mired in sleaze and spying on its own people at the time.
Oh, hang on ...

Man arrested for throwing a small round bomb with a fuse in the top (not really, a shotgun shell, the horror, the horror) over Buck Pal wall. www.bbc.com/news/uk-65464885
