Will they ever be French? I mean really? Can they be? I'm not saying they can never be French but can they really ever be French. Are they First Nations French (FNF)? Are they indigenous. I'm not say they're not indigenous but are they indigenous? Are they really?

First day of sport, the beach volleyball at the Eiffel Tower, was awesome. Great venue, great crowd, a couple of great arses, and the French seem to have done everything very, very well so far. I think even more Parisians than normal have f**k*d off to the provinces for the summer hols, and few non-Olympic tourists are here, so outside the main venues things aren’t too crowded. Transit, signage, general vibe, all seem to be done really well. All the cynical locals who were smugly proclaiming it was going to be a disaster aren’t here but in a year’s time will tell everyone they were and how great it was, just like happened with London.
