A man has been charged with murdering 28-year-old PC Andrew Harper, who was killed while investigating a burglary.
The Thames Valley Police officer died on Thursday in Sulhamstead, Berkshire, after being dragged along the road by a vehicle.
Jed Foster, 20, of Reading, has been charged with his murder and the theft of a quad bike.
Nine other people who were arrested at the same time as Mr Foster have been released on bail until 13 September.
Mr. Foster's wife said in a statement: "I can't understand it - I gave him some lucky heather."

It's been a f**k**g shambles. There are no votes in saying no to dem yoot, all of whom would have been the first person in their family to go to uni and all of whom had offers from Oxbridge.
What amazes me.about this is just how broken our civil service is: they had an algorithm which is now "flawed" because it didn't deliver politically. I don't know, but I suspect that the algorithm basically modeled the gap between the bullshit that teachere tell the kids every year and the actual results each year. The teachers have been utterly sh*t through Covid-19.
The gummint have realised that they're on a hiding to nothing so they kicked it down the road. Let's see what happens when it becomes apparent that there are - surprise, surprise- only half as many uni places available than required.

Sounds like it was a but of a sh*t algorithm though, worked on quotas, rather than the pre agreed on grade levels

I've really no idea about this. Apparently the teachers were giving vastly over-egged predictions. I blame Blair for arsing up the civil service.

Well, quotas are the basis of grade bands, or they used to be. Traditionally, grades bands are set AFTER the papers are marked, which makes sense when you think about it.

I'm sure the teachers were bullshitting. But creating an algorithm that structurally benefits posh kids is clearly a political loser. It's absolutely bonkers, even if it had any merit.

"The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England.
Ofqual is a non-ministerial department."
Slightly sweetens the pill.

Interesting that the SQA's website is spattered with references to their being government-approved.

Turns out is was the mendacity of the public sector teachers that's to blame. No surprises there. The algorithm seems to do exactly what I thought it might. www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-53807730I despair for this country, I really do.

The public sector hasn't had a good virus.

Yeah, and the sad part is that they'll be the only cunts still with jobs at the end of this. And pensions.

It sounds like the original basic algorithm was fairly sound, but then they decided to build in protections for private sector schools by doing the class size thing, They seem to have decided that teachers don’t lie if class sizes are below 6 pupils...

As I said yesterday, it’s just f**k**g stupid to create an algorithm that structurally strongly protects the posh kids. Even if the algorithm is sound, there’s going to be so much political blow-back that you have to know to avoid it. How much money were the toffs funnelling to Ofqual to get their protection built in?

Turns out that the algorithm's fatal flaw was honesty. It is to the public sector as salt is to slugs.
