But at the same time, the amount spent on stop smoking services rose from £26 million to £33 million - meaning the amount the NHS spends per quitter has soared by 65 per cent in just one year.

Well it makes sense that less people are quitting if there are less people to quit because a lot o people have quit already...if you know what I mean.

i drink in a hotel/bar. today i spoke to a very old time barmaid from the hotel. she told me whereas the regular diners had their meal in the restaurant (non smoking) and retired to the bar for their evil habit they just go home now. hence five got their redundancy notices last week. there was no upturn in non smoking diners during the smoking ban.

The service must develop to become efficient. That means those in charge need extra secretaties and staff under them. Because they have extra secretaries they need bigger offices, so they need proper office managers. Since they are in charge of the office managers they need a promotion to a higher grade. As someone on a higher grade they can't be expected to do menial work so need more secretaries and staff under them. So they need bigger offices, with more office managers and a senior office manager. Which means they need a higher grade......... I kid you not. The NHS in the 21st century. Not so much a sacred cow as a bottomless cess pit! |

Yes but at least we've protected these downtrodden workers from the evils of second hand smoke. That they can't afford their houses now is doubtless a price they were willing nay joyful to pay. |

I think the downturn's probably due to the economy rather than the smoking ban: who wants to pay £3 a pint for cold piss (in a smelly place with boring company)? Better getting lashed before you go out.

Im a smoker, just bought an inhalator. It aint working too well, but mind you i found that when i watch movies or play a games console i chain smoke, so thats been the times i use an inhalator. Still on about 8 - 10 a day. saying that ive had 10 today already and im sure thats gonna rise before the end of the eve  Stressful day |

10s not that bad radge, you could be on 40+ a day, not that anyone can afford that many! The cost in a week, phewee!
Thank goodness i gave up years ago when i was a student! I couldn't afford it then lol!
