The coldest we've had on the South Coast UK so far is -8. It's still freezing today, the car is completely iced up, so's the garden. Rain is on it's way and milder temperatures here so they say. I think i'd sooner have the cold and dry weather, i hate the rain!

I heard on the car radio today that apparently the weather experts got the weather wrong and the milder weather is on its way tonight. Tomorrow temperatures here on the South Coast UK will be nearer 7 degrees instead of an average of -5 like it has been lately during the day. It's been freezing again here today so far.

The last few days here in Cumbria have been fairly mild (grey, overcast, and drizzly) But at least it isn't freezing

It's never thawed out today here in the Fylde. Roll on tomorrow. I'm tired of being cold.

I made a chilli for our evening meal and added the usual amount of fresh chillis. I left it simmering whilst watching the news on TV and my wife added another handful assuming I'd forgotten. We had to have a litre of orange juice each to wash it down. (on the plus side - my sinuses are now clear)

There are meteorological factors that suggest a decent summer is on the cards. We rely on the Gulf Stream to send warm ocean currents our way every year. Since 2006 it's been somewhat lacklustre; but during the last couple of months it's been revving up for action. Then there's La Nina, the name given to an atypical cooling of the tropical warm waters in the Pacific. Usually this process happens once every few years; recently, you won't be surprised to hear, it's hung around, stubbornly sending bad weather our way. By spring, however, it should have disappeared.
