Awash in debt, behind on his mortgage and recently fired from his job at a hospital, Ervin Lupoe was planning on leaving California. He'd pulled his kids out of their school, packed his sport utility vehicle with snow chains and winter clothing for him and his family and appeared ready for the trip to his brother-in-law's home in Garden City, Kan.
It's not yet known if he was planning on leaving for good in a bid to flee his mounting money problems or if the trip would have only been temporary.
Whatever his intention, Lupoe never got to Kansas.
Instead, police say, he shot his five children and wife to death before turning the gun on himself.www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jgQq_Pn5o6mQHLQWGyzBoiaz4nOwD960EJMO0Sorry, but I have no pity for this jerk. He's in a financial hole so his only solution is to blow away his entire family? (Apparently the wife was in on it.) What a frikken loser.

There are getting to be far too many of these stories of men blowing away thier whole family just because times are tough. What in hell goes through their minds to even contemplate such a thing??

another.......... An Australian man charged with throwing his four-year-old daughter to her death from a bridge was suffering acute psychiatric distress, a court heard. The girl plunged 58m (190ft) from the West Gate bridge in Melbourne into the Yarra river during morning rush hour. She died a few hours later, after being airlifted to the city's Royal Children's Hospital, officials said. The 35-year-old suspect is thought to have been involved in a protracted custody dispute with his wife. The man did not appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court, as he was said to be suicidal and suffering from acute psychiatric distress. He was remanded in custody. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7857457.stm

There was the German industrialist who stood in front of a train recently too, blamed his suicide on the financial crisis. Didn't seem too concerned about the effect on the train driver. Suicide is a very selfish way to go, rather than cowardly I would suggest.

I cannot apologise for agreeing with Marshall and PC. To kill children is unforgivable irrespective of personal woes. It is cowardly.

He was pushed a little far. It might happen to you one day. He owed money! It happens sometimes. Lots of people manage to cope without killing anyone.

Sod the driver, what about us passengers? Why do these selfish bastards always decide to chuck themselves under an underground train during rush hour?

I agree with you all.
If I get into debt I'll just shoot the wife.

I'm sick of hearing about all these fathers who are separating from their partners, taking it out on their kids. It just goes to show they were not fit fathers in the first place.

Tho i can understand a 'little' why ppl 'lose' it when theres nothing but debt, killing ones kids is dispicable!
Im a single mum and after years of debt, and scared to answer the door or phone or even dread the postman, there are ways out! and yes sometimes u feel theres nowhere to turn esp if like me there isnt family to fall back on! And no it didnt mean i had been out spending etc, these debts were from a few years earlier when i had a breakdown, no work etc etc, circumstances change so quickly sometimes!!
Last August after sititng down with CAB, after 3mths of over a grand in charges from the bank for a £5 overcharge on my account, i cudnt leave it any longer, so i declared myself bankrupt!! and its the best thing i ever did! it felt like a ten ton weight was lifted off my shoulders. Being bankrupt doesnt have the stigma it used to have, its simple to do, ( tho still find it strange u have to pay £500 to declare yrself bankrupt lol)
I may now have no credit rating for 6yrs, but hey thats fine and in my eyes bloody good!!, My kids now have pocket money, we can afford treats finally, and im smiling again! i can finally start decorating my house. Dont get me wrong id rather have not done it, but i was left with no choice, as its the big cmpanies/banks that lost out, its was there fault to start with!!
So yes there are ways out, there are ppl out there that will help, nothing is worth killing yr family for, esp not debts! in my opinion its a coward and a lazy person that takes this route to get rid of debts!

You're absolutely right vonnie! I was a single mum years ago with two babies, and the benefit system wasn't like today, i really struggled with no money or help. I went to see all the people i owed money to and sorted out repayment plans, a little here and a little there. If you go to these people, they can be helpful. It meant i could keep everyone off my back for total repayment, no interest, no hassles! I finally sorted myself out not owing a penny. It is possible. My babies were and still are my life, i can't imagine any parent wanting to hurt/kill their own children. Do people really get that desperate?! My kids were the only thing that kept me going during hard times, bless them.
Some of the news stories coming out about people in debt taking drastic action are horrendous, and i think this is only the beginning of them. Horrible!

When times get tough you don't thnk of destroying your famly, you hug them closer, protect them and work your way out of it. How could anyone harm their children, its is so far beyond me......

He was pushed a little far. It might happen to you one day. How was he pushed? Getting into a huge hole of debt is usually one's own doing. If you are single with no family, offing yourself is your own business. If you have a family that depends on you, what this man did is both cowardly and extremely selfish. No excuses. And I have lost my job during cutbacks so it has happened to me (twice).

They have weak characters. With regard to the fool who shot his family, why did he use such a violent painful method. Better and painless way is to put a hosepipe on the exhaust. Not that I condone suicide in any way, but those kids must have really suffered waiting for their turn.

Scooby, are you trying to blame society? I'm not trying to blame anybody. I have no idea of the guys life, lifestyle or anything else. I just don't try to assume to know more than I do.

Sure you are, you're assuming it wasn't really his fault at all.
