Political Correctness is a evil that should be crushed. The solution is to lay down heavy scorn on those people that push for it, time for a backlash.

I'm sceptical Jewish groups complained about this. The crusades weren't against them, they had the spoecific aim of taking back Jerusalem from Saladin and the muslims who had conquered it and were making raids on Christian Byzantium.
They were defensive wars or at the very least counter-offensive.

To be honest I doubt a paper like the Torygraph would invent a Jewish complainant.
However I did chuckle at the 'one or two' complaints. So actually an overreaction really.

And the race to claim senior victimhood over the crusades is on. Just wait until the gay right groups claim that they were unjustly discriminated against by both Saladin and King Richard and descendants of black slaves in America demand reparation from somebody or other.

Not very accurate, I'm afraid: "The history of the Jews and the crusades became a part of the history of anti-Semitism for the Jews in the Middle Ages. The call for the First Crusade touched off new persecutions of the Jews that would continue on and off for centuries." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_and_the_CrusadesNevertheless, I agree that no Jew, in his right mind, would go protesting against such a name. After all, Jews were persecuted by practically every nation in the world at one time or another. So we cannot "keep grudge" against everybody, now, can we? There are Jews living in Germany after the Holocaust, in Spain (long) after the Inquisition and deportation, in England.... Still, none of you is bothered by Middle-sex? what does it mean?

I think it is accurate Avi, the Crusades weren't aimed at Jews. Jews might have sufferened incidentally but they weren't the object which was taking back Jerusalem and stopping raids on Chritian Byzantium.
"The atrocities were opposed by the local bishops and widely condemned at the time as a violation of the crusades' aim, which was not directed against the Jews.[1] "

In Palestine the Jews and Arabs were on the same side against the Crusaders

But presumably the Jews living today can recognise that they weren't the object and don't hold a personal grudge against the crusades and people using that term foir their football team?
Whereas the Islamists see it as an ongoing struggle and very much personally resent the crusades.

Hang on a minute. The bloke at the cricket club says they had complaints from Jewish groups and that their former Jewish president didn't like it - and you think he's fibbing. Now another Jew is telling you why Jews might object to the name and you still don't believe they might possibly do that?
Out of interest, and with my own expectations of your anticipated reply, do you think it's all fibs about the Muslims complaining as well?

I just think muslims see it as an ongoing millenial battle with christianity whereas Jews don't. I've never heard of Jews having a problem with the historical fact of the crusades and find it hard to believe they'd resent the use of the name for a football team.
It's like me having a problem with the jutes, angles, saxons danes and norsemen for rapong and pillaging my great great great great great great etc grandmother.

Look, Jews are human the same as everyone else. There will be some Jews who are ridiculously over-sensitive about stuff. It's just the current vogue for religious types to wail that they're offended and persecuted and victimised and not being given enough respect and whatever else, no reason why Jews won't be getting in on it same as the Christians are.

No I don't think it's a fib about muslims complaining because for them it's a conflict that is ongoing. And for their propensity to complain about and assert themselves over other trivial (as we would see them) matters.

So this name change harms nobody and yet lots of people are throwing hissy fits about it? Hmm. Bunch of hysterical girls moaning about a triviality of naming? Isn't this what the usual complaint against the "PC Brigade" is?
And this, of course, is a name that's lasted all of about three years, and is nothing to do with any tradition anyway.
Middlesex County Cricket Club should be called Middlesex County Cricket Club and have no silly marketing gimmick addenda to their name.
