I just picked up my Daily Telegraph, the top selling NEWS paper here in Sydney and splashed across the front page was the headline was "Tarrant's Gay Avatar" What an enthralling, must read NEWS story. It's even taken precidence of such trivial matters as War in the Middle East, Famine and Genocide in Africa and the muderous Bushfires in Australia.

Of course it's a bloody personal attack on Tarrant, it wouldn't bloody exist if it wasn't.

If a certain somebody has a problem with it, why not pass a comment instead of dedicating an entirely new thread to it?

While i disagree with most of what Tarrant says on certain topics, this is clearly an attack on someones 'persona' by a poster that can't have a civilised debate with him without resorting to sledging and foul language insults.

There's a fine line between humorous ribaldry, affectionate piss taking, delightful sarcasm and mere nastiness. All of the first three are fine and to be encouraged, the last is ... um ... merely nasty and should be zapped. Whether a post is one thing or another depends on factors such as who is the poster, the postee. the tone and context. So there can be a rule about no personal attacks which seems to be violated constantly, but isn't. Then there's one instance where it is.

Like Prince Harry can call his mate a paki and it is okay, apparently, but if some skinhead neanderthal yells it at a stranger in the street at 1am, very different.

Given the poster and postee in question, I'd say this is in the 'is' category - Cobs doesn't like Tarrant, he's posting insulting stuff about him. It's bullying, but it really just shows what a pathetic little jerk Cobs is, though, to be honest, we had ample evidence of that already. Tarrant's shown himself up to be a bit of a snivelling brat and should just have ignored the trollish behaviour. And I've shown myself to be blessed with the wisdom of SOlomon. As always.

Is this a case of there only being offence given if it is taken? This isn't the first time a thread was started to poke fun at a member. EiT did one on me and Jonren. Everyone took it as a bit of giggle. If you can't get a laugh out of this internet thing you might as well stop doing it because you won't do any good with it.

I mean, it's very gay and pathetic to post a thread naming someone as the target - even a political thread you know like "Cobbs friends thrash muslims in racist attack" or "Tarrants friends kick the crap out of some jews in Golders Green" or whatever. For all kinds of reasons, not least of which it's some retarded in joke to the forum and anyone coming from outside will think "what a bunch of self-regarding wankers", with good reason.

It's even more retarded to post the thread when it's not related to the news at all.

But, please, you know, once it's here, don't throw a hissy fit and say "Oh, look, I don't like this kind of vicious personal attack on my little picture of people dancing!
