And Lonesome Dove, the TV programme. Utterly utterly. Never saw the show, but the book is great.

And I’ve been to Yuma. I’ve probably even been there are 3:10. For 6 months of the year it’s a really, really crappy place.

Actually, Yuma's a really crappy place 100% of the year. But for at least 6 months it has astonishingly miserable weather.

Never saw the film. It's just a town you go through on the Interstate between San Diego and Tucson. It's a convenient place to stop for a snack, but the options are grim, and the entire town is a soulless concrete dump surrounded by even worse trailer parks built for the lowest rent snowbirds who don't want to pay the money for somewhere like Palm Springs or Tucson.

I really should watch the Lonesome Dove TV show. And really should read the other books in the series. But the original book is absolutely fantastic, well worth your time.

I've read them all <smug>. They're great and you get to find out how Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones first joined the Texas Rangers and all the stuff horrible that they did and that was done to them.

Oh I have seen 3:10 to Yuma. That was ok. No cows though if I recall. Which one? The 1957 original starring Glenn Ford and Van Heflin, or the remake of 2007 with Russell Crowe and Christian Bale? Even though the latter received two Oscar nominations, I prefer the former as Glenn Ford plays the bad guy, which was rare for him. Black & white too, which adds a certain je ne sais quoi.

Does no country for old men count as a western?

Lonesome Dove - the TV series is excellent.
I'll stick this in here:

I did not even know there was a 1957 version. To be honest Westerns from that time period really hold no interest for me. The few I have watched (3:10 to Yuma, The Magnificent Seven, Brokeback Mountain which may not count as a Western) are all modern versions.

Good Westerns are awesome - a universal truth. "3:10 to Yuma", "High Noon", "Little Big Man", "Rio Bravo", "The Wild Bunch", "Unforgiven" etc. etc. ... I mean, come ON people! The Rounders. One of my favorites.

Looking like a seal is provocative to a shark. So, being in the water in a wetsuit or on a surfboard...
