I think it symbolises him stealing ideas from other companies and nicking of with Steve Wozniak's share of their early income.

How do you know it's Banksy?
I also think this thing is kind of gay. You could just as easily produce a similar thing showing being anti-immigration (showing the the child of an immigrant who turned out to be a murderius cunt).

The word 'murderius' is great; it should be a real thing.

You could just as easily produce a similar thing showing being anti-immigration (showing the the child of an immigrant who turned out to be a murderius cunt). It's authenticated by his website as all his works are. In that sense he has turned the art world up side down, instead of getting all precious about his work he gives it all away, the originals creating wealth for those that are lucky enough to have their property adorned, latterly deserving causes. He makes his money, and he's made millions, from exhibitions selling prints and other work, Recently he created Dismaland in collaboration with other lesser knowns & performance artists raising their profile while giving punters what they want at rock bottom prices. He could indeed have produced a work featuring an infamous murdering immigrant if there were such a thing and wished to make that point but didn't. Importantly and uniquely in this work the subject isn't a faceless stencil, it features a portrait painted on site stealthily, a new innovation and no mean feat. Frankly a critique using the term "gay" is puerile & could only come from someone who has put no effort into art appreciation.

And yes he could easily have done that. But the point is it's really lame - look help refugees because this individual child of a refugee did well. You could make the same argument in reverse. It's just really lame beloved of the arse clenching right on crowd (such as you) but really meaningless. It's like the kind of people who claim only native Americans can say anything about immigration to the US...

It's like the kind of people who claim only native Americans can say anything about immigration to the US... It would have to be a recognisable child of a murdering immigrant so let's see if you can name one? It's far from lame it's very very pertinent, he could have chosen any number of famous immigrants from Einstein to Lady Gaga to reinforce the accurate point that immigration is essentially a good thing. He got specific, a son of an immigrant from a town very recently flattened by war and whose former residents may well be in the jungle he choose as a location. Not only is Banksy's work technically proficient its conceptually brilliant. What Modigliani did for architecture Banksy is doing for graffiti.

"Put no effort into art appreciation" *Rolls eyes* "Gay"? Culture has surely passed you by. "It's like the kind of people who claim only native Americans can say anything about immigration to the US..." & yet Jobs was the son of an immigrant to the US and Banksy likely not an first nation native. You are just pulling critique out yer arse.

I used to appreciate Banksy back when he was just someone who did better graffiti than the normal crap.
But now he's treated as if he's a "serious artist" it seems to completely miss the point.

Always the way innit? Something becomes popular and there are always those that forsake merit for thinking themselves cool by swimming against the stream. Well I still like Dire Straits. No such thing as unserious conceptual art unless frivolity is the concept.
Banksy does serious stuff, child frisking IDF, and frivolous, Lover hanging from window. By doing it all stealthily there's a fusion of classic & performance. Banksy still has and displays the same qualities you recognised in the beginning.

I have an airhead female friend who just has to be the first to know about anything. The interest lasts for a day or two then she moves on.

I don't accept that what Banksy does is good art. The political stuff is trite and simplistic. It was good graffiti, compared to the usual sh*t. That's what made it interesting. But as "art"? Nah

Nah You are of course entitled to your opinion on art but the six figure sums his art fetches suggests you too are talking out yer arse. I'd suggest there is only one living artist whose work fetches more. Least ways I can only think of one/

So, the amount someone's art fetches at auction defines how worthwhile their art is? That's a very un-hippy way of looking at it.
