Nah, bollocks. Unless you are taking with a vaniaesque degree of literalness, not every scribble produced by a five year old is art, in spite of what their teacher says. Nor is every crappy limerick poetry. Nor is every self published masturbation aid about sado-masochistic sex with vampires literature.

Even bad art is art. Feck, it even has a name, primitive.

This is an old thread, but it's worth looking at again in the light of Banksy's latest offerings. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjw3ld0l5ewoTo my mind, he's lost his mojo. This is all a bit t-shirts for middle aged nature types.

It crossed my mind that the theft, in broad daylight, by two people who couldn't even be bothered to hide their identity, was part of the tableau.

I saw that yesterday and was wondering what people were snapping. I mistakenly thought they were trying to snap St Paul’s from a bad angle.
It’s gone now.
(To be clear I am talking about the fish on the police box.

Thing is, many people know of Banksy's techniques so there's precious little to stop them from putting their own Banksy-like artwork on their own house / garage / garden-wall, is there? What would / could he do to stop them? Copyright his technique? Produce his own lists of genuine and fake artwork? Could he resort to the Law, as that is difficult to do if he were to try to protect and retain his anonymity.

Apparently he authenticates his work on his own social media / website. But nothing to stop him claiming random work.

Of course, it's far easier to just nick someone else's property and threaten people. Doing a Blacksy.
