Paris - Briancon about €300 return for 2. 2nd class. < €100 extra 1st class. Recommended. Thanks OOTLG, is that from the French SNCF site? I suspect that I'm being referred to some crappy parallel site because it recognises a UK IP address, so I don't think I 've been getting the best price. I'm keen to take Mrs. Baloo out to check out Briancon as part of a sneaky campaign to get an investment property out there. Sneaky, because she's not a skier (unlike the kids and I) and isn't particularly keen on being cold. I pointed out that the temperatures are 29C all week this week and she's weakening. Still a long way off, but acorns and mighty oaks .... The little princess is not, of course, Mrs. Baloo but my darling dog. Hence not flying.

Sweet Jesus, point out she could tackle the col de l'izoard before breakfast. 15k at about 7% average, 1200m of climbing and a creme De menthe at the top, before the descent. That should sell it and no mistake. She could even put the dog in a basket .

If she can ride up the Izoard with a puppy in her basket she probably doesn't need a train and can ride all the way to Besancon on her own.
150 Euro per person seems pretty f**k**g expensive to me for SNCF. At that price, you might as well have a private company running it.

Off season it's cheaper, but still over the top imo. We went to Ireland end of May and came back mid-June: the outward trip was €160 for 2, coming back (high season) €480. Everything's a rip-off.

A great man. Bold, adventurous. Corbyn can't find the seat on his bike.

In a similar vein.
Branson fell off his bike, went over the handlebars after hitting a speed bump, landed on his head, ouch.

This is vaguely interesting www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-13898192 Labour leader Ed Miliband has told his MPs he wants to change the party's rules so that he can choose who sits in his shadow cabinet. Under decades-old rules, Labour's front bench in opposition is chosen through a ballot of its MPs every two years. Mr Miliband said that represented "a legacy of Labour's past in opposition".Another Labour backbencher, Jeremy Corbyn, told the BBC it was "the wrong direction of travel". "I do not see the need for this change, it increases the power of patronage, it reduces the accountability of the leader to Labour MPs," he said. That was then but this is now. www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/sep/02/jeremy-corbyn-labour-leadership-shadow-cabinet-electionsPlans to politically imprison Jeremy Corbyn by reintroducing elections to the shadow cabinet have been shelved after it emerged that the change would require the agreement of the party conference as well as two-thirds of Labour MPs.
There had been calls by his opponents to restore the elections, which they believe would bring victory for candidates on a mainstream slate who could limit his freedom of manoeuvre and allow shadow cabinet members to say they work to a mandate provided by the Parliamentary Labour party (PLP).
However, no proposals have been put to the chairman of the PLP, John Cryer. He needs to be given seven days’ notice for something to be put on the agenda of the PLP, which is due to meet on Monday to bid farewell to Harriet Harman as the interim leader.
Cryer and other party officials have been told the reintroduction of shadow cabinet elections, which were abolished by Ed Miliband, would necessitate a rule change passed at the party conference, something the unions would oppose if Corbyn did not support it.Lets have a guess on whether Corbyn will support it. Just by the by a great quote in the Beeb article. "You don't demonstrate strong leadership by having a battle with your own party," From " left-wing Labour MP John McDonnell" Mr McDonnell said the whole Labour party was "willing Ed Miliband to be a success" and MPs would not want to inflict a defeat on their leader. But he said the party's rank and file wanted more democracy: "They don't want to go back to the old days of Blair." Oh heady days. From

Hitler and Harry Potter, with their belief in genetic superiority of certain peoples, contempt for Muggles, and suspicion of the Jews Goblins that run the banks, would get along famously.
