Thanks voice. I'm alive and kicking - just haven't had much to say... or rather - just couldn't be arsed.

Thanks voice. I'm alive and kicking - just haven't had much to say... or rather - just couldn't be arsed. No one here has much to say, and they say it often...

The world has gone mad ...mad I tell ye!
Scotland, ranked 15th in the world, started their Men's T20 World Cup campaign in brilliant fashion by shocking two-time winners West Indies.
Chasing 161 to win, a mixture of woeful batting and disciplined bowling saw the Windies bowled out for 118, to lose by 42 runs in Group B.
Scotland made 160-5, with opener George Munsey striking an unbeaten 66 from 53 balls.

Great for the Scots. But I hate the WI losing these sort of games. I worry that the sport has been losing its grip there for the last three decades and anything that furthers its decline isn’t great.

Basket ball is taking over in the Windies, apparently, as the sport of choice for many young uns these days

think so, but its not something I care enough about to know much about, the bits I've seen look tedious.

Basketball's generally a terribly boring sport to watch, but has two benefits for kids on small, poor islands close to the US - pitches are small and paved and you can have lots of them even in urban areas, whereas cricket requires huge amounts of space - people who make it big in basketball make comically obscene amounts of money because of the way the US sports TV market works
I don't think cricket's a "summer" sport in the WI as "summer" is not a particularly meaningful concept in the tropics.

Meanwhile, probably one of England and Australia won’t make the semi-finals of the World Cup and there’s an outside chance India won’t, either, after their defeat a couple of days ago. Which would really piss off the money-men at the ICC.

England have just beaten Pakistan to become the T20 World Champions.
We are also currently the World One Day champions.
Fantastic atmosphere in a packed stadium. All fans sitting next to each other - no trouble at all.

Well played the mighty roaring lions!
It's clearly a Very Big Deal, because the entire tournament managed to garner two whole posts on this thread.

True - but it's been pick up by the papers and Channel 4 had the whole final free to view Sunday morning.
