I read maybe 2 or 3 of the earlier ones. They were dumb as a box of rocks, but took no effort to read. Sufficiently deeply unmemorable that I don't even remember which ones I read.

Anyway, well played the West Indies for getting through today without losing any wickets.

I'm no cheerleader for GA, or I wouldn't be, if it weren't for the suggestion that he's a talentless tosser. He's a bit of a twit, granted, but he's got balls and a brain. His problem was that he wasn't quite pukkah.

Well, there are two problems. His books are lightweight fluff of little or no quality. The literary equivalent of watching soap operas. A harmless way to fill time.
The other problem is all the other dodgy stuff.

The near bankruptcy, the libel trial and subsequent perjury conviction, the Equatorial Guinea coup, the expenses stuff from his early days that almost got him deselected. And the gaucheness of the shepherds pie and Krug parties.

All a bit jumbled, that. Guardian prop.

I assumed that all fitted under your own catch-all of "wasn't quite pukkah"

all out for 287, could be doable, a few overs to build a lead then put the windies back into to bat and hope for the best.

West Indies all out for 197 - they trail England by 172 runs.
Archer = scored 3 runs and got one wicket.
Broad (who people have been thinking of dropping) scored 62 runs and took 6 wickets for 31

England win the Series - 2 -1 The crowd rose as one man - there was only one man.
Archer stays at 3 runs and one wicket for the whole Test.
Broad; Woakes and Stokes - magnificent.

England making a game of this one now, having been distinctly dodgier earlier in the process. It's going to be a tough chase, but at least it's not out of reach like we would have suspected at lunchtime.

When it’s good, there’s nothing like Test Match Cricket.
