Anyone who says they're having "fish supper for tea" certainly needs help. But Van's "geographical split" link proves that I am right. It's just chippy (geddit?) wannabe working class using "tea" as a badge of reverse snobbery. If you didn’t read it that’s fine. Just say that. I read it. It said that the vast majority use the word dinner. And a small minority, mostly in the kinds of enclaves that pride themselves on how terrible northern and working class they are, try to keep using the word "tea" for a meal even though they know that tea is a (nasty) drink. I believe even that those who still aspire to show off their working class credentials also blather on incessantly about the amount of "tea" they drink. But it has to be "builders tea" to show how very proletarian they are.

But it has to be "builders tea" to show how very proletarian they are. You definitely didn’t read it. As I said. You are definitely very “southern.” And take that in all the ways you need to take it. It’s simple. North/ South divide and class doesn’t seem to impact it all that much - not to the extent that geographical location. More people in total use the term dinner because there are more people in the South than the North. And southerners continually demonstrate they are very confused when everywhere in England isn’t the exact same as it is in the south…

Amusing that Van's never heard of a fish supper. It's a thing.

They can't help themselves, can they? "I had read more about them fighting, and the music paper would be full of these brothers causing mayhem, so they were a kind of bad boy group. The haircuts formed a "recognisable look" that encouraged a fandom and loyalty that meant "lads in Manchester started to walk like Liam", he said. But Oasis's dominance has also led to Manchester being associated as a place where "white lads are the creative drivers of everything, which is a bit of shame", Mr Haslam said." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cevj83ed0geo

Ha. It was a different Oasis story that had me mad at the BBC www.bbc.com/news/articles/c23le394y3jo"Why do we care so much about Oasis?" "We" don't. And, in fact, the public don't appear to have been bothered much. The only reason I knew about this was because the BBC and other media goons have been pumping the story. And, in fact, outlets like BBC 6 Music have been pushing Oasis 30th anniversary and nostalgia bullshit all year. Almost as if Oasis's publicity team have been priming this and the BBC have got sucked in. Even though, as it happens, almost nobody I know has cared about anything Oasis has done since about 5 days after the release of the third album when everyone realised it was coked up overproduced dreary bombast. And that, to steal a line "Noel ran out of other peoples' ideas". To the extent that I - and I doubt I'm the only one - wasn't even aware that they'd split up so didn't know they could have a reunion. BBC wonders why the BBC has been overexcited and publishing stories about something the BBC has been priming the BBC to get excited about...

The only reason the BBC are bigging this up is because they recognise the power of Don't Look Back in Anger to quell any post-terrorist attack anger.

Kitchen sink drama starring Midge Ure's auntie? Surely it would only quell terrorism by boring everyone to death. Perhaps the same is true of Oasis.

I don't want to shut down the BBC, but they certainly need to think a little when they post news stories to their website ... 'Swedish chef critical after attack near carnival' : Are you thinking what I was thinking ... ?Come on, Auntie Beeb - up yer game. In the meantime, I wish the young man at the centre of this story all the very best for a healthy & speedy recovery.

You're right. The lack of a definite article is an appalling abuse of the English language.

I will spend my day doing CAD plans in silent reflection and contemplation. I shall ask my client to name a Tea Point in his honour. I have already set aside The Grenfell Tower Massacre Fire Assembly Point, which will stand in silent rebuke of our genocidal policies.

It really is beyond saving, isn't it? "Jay Blades, the BBC presenter, has been charged with engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour towards his wife. Blades, 54, appeared at Kidderminster magistrates’ court on Friday after being charged by West Mercia Police with one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship. According to court documents, the charge relates to his wife Lisa Zbozen, a fitness instructor, who announced on her Instagram page in May that their relationship was over. The couple married in the grounds of a beachfront villa in Barbados on Nov 22 2022." www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/13/repair-shop-jay-blades-charged-controlling-behaviour/

I've no idea who that is, but it seems very odd that we have to have a divorce played out like this.
Also, "Blades was born in Brent, North London[7] and raised in Hackney, East London with his mother and maternal half-brother.[8][6] As an adult, he learned that his father had 25 other children, from different mothers, in a number of countries.[6] He has dyslexia, which was not diagnosed at school.[6] He says that he experienced racism at school and from the police."
Straight out of Tracey Beaker.

I am trying to remember what I watched him in.
I am almost baffled when people get married and then not even two years later it collapsed. The due diligence ahead of time must have been zero.
