14,966 people pay for Chris Evans.
3,062 people pay for Claudia Winkleman...although I would be happy to pay all that myself.

£350,000 – £399,999 Derek Thompson – Actor BBC pays a man pretending to be a nurse 10 times more than a real nurse. We pay nurses £ 35k? Middle ranking ones, yeah.

But if somebody is happy to pay that amount how can they be "overpaid"? There is no fixed, universally agreed payrate. That someone is the licence payer, that's me and everyone else who pays, and I'm not happy with it. If these twonks are getting this amount, how much are the Directors getting? But so what if they'd paid a lot? You end up paying everybody's salary directly or indirectly. If that's market rate and what they would earn at a competitor so what. The director's probably earn loads too. *shrugs* I am sure media directors outside of the Beeb earn a load too.

The BBC don't really operate in "the market", being massively, massively subsidised. They do operate in the employment market where they compete for staff. It's like people who get mad that people who work for charities earn the market rate. Why wouldn't they.

I am very surprised that this list of BBC earners hasn't been made public before now. Here in Ontario anybody who is paid with taxpayers money and earns over $100,000 by law has to be included on a list that is published once a year. It's been nicknamed 'The Sunshine List'. Every year there's the usual outcry about how much those folks earn, but you just have to compare them with salaries that are paid in the private sector to see that the amounts are not out of line. All my kids earn well over $100,000 per year but they work for private companies and if they moved to the public sector would expect similar salaries. I guess the ire is down to the fact it's taxpayers money and that UK citizens have no choice and have to buy a tv licence. CBC is funded via taxpayers but they also get a good chunk of money from adverts. There is no tv licence here and if you want to watch advert free tv there are options such as TVO, funded by Ontario taxpayers and corporations, or PBS funded by donations from the public, corporations and wealthy US citizens. I remember when I first qualified and comparing the salaries for what some of the charities / public sector companies were offering for first movers from practice vs. the rest of the private sector... You just ended up skimming over any of the charitable organisations because the salaries were not remotely in line (across some of them.) Unfortunately life isn't free and there would have to be some serious perks in a role for you to decide to remain in it and be significantly underpaid. I agree there are two issues here. A) Are the Beeb stars "overpaid" and B) should the Beeb receive taxpayer money. I think they're completely separate and if you are opposed to b) does a) really matter.

Amusing to hear some kunt on the radio this evening who's drawn the conclusion not that meeja folk are horribly over-paid but that, as Linker is on 800k and that silly cow who set fire to her daughter is the best-paid female at 400k then this illustrates a gross gender imbalance. They'll both be on 800k next year. I've already seen a lot about the gender pay imbalance on this list. While utterly unsurprising it will be interesting to see if that changes in the future.

Tbh I don't really care, since it's not my tax money and it isn't as if I know any of those high paid names. They're just names to me. I was merely commenting that I was surprised that this information hasn't been released before now. Also I was commenting on why some people appear to be ticked off about it all. The fact that it has now come out that women are paid less is interesting though.

I think it's generally known that TV stars / celebs are paid a decent wage.

Anyway, this is brilliant. The BBC/Guardian are in an uproar over this.

And of course we need to undermine the BBC. Keep chipping away at it.

I think people here are jealous. They have not a hope in hell of earning that much cash...

Yes, you're right of course.
£1,750,00 is more than I earn in a year - only just - but it is more.

Who are these people? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40696402I vaguely recognise the aristocratic rugmuncher and the child-burning, post-op Bob Monkhouse, but as for the rest.

Not that it matters but Sue Barker looks scarily like The Joker, from Batman, in that pic.

Well, "The Generation Game" is coming back, it was crap when Brucie did it, I shudder to think what Sue and Mel will make it.
Double shudder to think how much loot they'll get paid too.
