That is, of course, because everyone can buy guns in Wisconsin and Indiana and drive about an hour and end up in Chicago. Localised gun control laws aren't enough.

Of course, ending mass shootings and school shootings isn't about the "crim community", as you put it. Most of these people are sad loners, usually linked to gun-nut internety stuff, rather than black drug gangs in the inner cities. And these guys do tend to buy weapons in fairly regular ways (or have family members who do).

Personally, I think the obsession with mass shootings somewhat misses the mark. These are the high visibility events, but tons more people die from family shootings, suicides and accidents.

It really should be trivial to institute a ban on new sales of semi-automatic weapons, and to require owners of handguns and hunting weapons to have a license, and for that license to need passing both skills and competence classes, and mental fitness tests. No different to driving a car.

Sure, some people will still have access to those weapons, but over time you'd see a fall-off in crime and no negative impacts.

And how do the NRA propose checking for this? Given that they don't want licenses for ownership, nor thorough background checks on every gun purchase, it does seem like just "nice words" without any substance.

there is no proposal for ending background checks, there has been proposal for including mental health problems to the background checks, but for the democrats this could have already happened, the dems seem to want a ban on guns or nothing

now even you know thats bollox, but its the kind of intellectual dishonesty that pervades this from the GOP. Already you get the usual crap 'its too soon to talk about this' and 'he must have been mentally ill' and so on. The people who buy these GOP law makers and pull their strings don't care about dead kids all they care is selling as many guns and maximizing profits, they have no morals and no compunction to be responsible members of their wider society and their venal enablers in GOP go right along.

The Mail's front page headline is describing how the shooter deteriorated since his mother died last year. Wonder if they'd be running a story like that if the perpetrator had been more vibrant in his ethnicity?

Though, obviously, someone with a name like Cruz should never have been in a good, decent Anglo-Saon country like the USA. Build that wall!

well as he had no diagnosis of mental illness, just that he was a nut obsessed with guns (time we saw that in DSM 5 imo) neither would the proposal for including mental health problems to the background checks you claim the dems stopped.

There is no justification whatsoever for civilians to have access to military weapons, this stupidity has to stop, if your a shooting enthusiast there are plenty of firearms which cover Hunting,competition or pest control, you don't need fekin assault rifles!
