That is so demeaning for those students. In a sense it's worse that the conspiracy theorists who claim they're all paid actors. If the right wing can't or won't accept that high school students are perfectly capable of organizing themselves, then watch out at the next election when many of them will be able to vote.

as some one said the other day, why are they surprised the children are rising up and taking the fight to them, after all we've fed them a diet of dystopian visions for years where teen have to fight save the world, perhaps they saw it more as prep than fiction

It's interesting to see that the Republicans have suddenly all moved on from their "Blue Lives Matter", "respect the police", "the police are fine, and when they shoot black people it's an acceptable accident".
Now, they're laying the boots in, full force, to the Florida police departments. They have to do this, because otherwise they'd have to accept that a "good guy with a gun" -
and, in fact, a properly trained guy with a gun - didn't actually help solve the problem.
It turns out that the Republicans and the US right care more about owning guns (or pandering to the gun lobby, more accurately) than they do about the police.

they care more about their guns than they do about dead kids, so its hardly surprising they have no genuine respect for the police

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Shortly after he declared that he would have run into a Florida high school unarmed to thwart a mass shooting, Donald J. Trump announced that he was planning a parade in Washington, D.C., to celebrate his hypothetical act of heroism.
“Anyone can act with bravery in the moment,” Trump told reporters in the White House. “But it takes a very special kind of hero to tell people about the incredibly brave thing he would have done weeks after the thing happened.”
He added that it was one of his greatest regrets that bone spurs prevented him from serving in the Vietnam War, “because the really courageous things I would have done during that war would have been off the charts.”
“As soon as the Tet Offensive happened, I would have run unarmed right into that mess,” he said. “We probably would have won the war right after I did that.”
Trump said that the parade he was ordering would honor not only him but all of America’s “last responders.”
According to a new poll, Trump’s assertion that he would have run into the Florida high school unarmed was believed by his daughter Ivanka.

LOL, Trump doesn't even have the courage to face the press. When is the last time you saw him give a press conference?
The NRA (like the GOP) used to be a sane, even respectable organization. They were basically all about training people in the use of guns.
And just like the GOP, they were taken over by a group of right-wingnuts. This happened at their annual get-together in 1977 and the they haven't been the same since.
They have nothing at all to do with supporting the 2nd amendment rights or gun owners. They are quite simply a lobby for gun manufacturers. Nothing more.
Their spokesman is a blithering idiot who says that the 2A is a right that was granted from God, ffs.

Not quite true. Dick's own stores hasn't been selling military style rifles since Sandy Hook, but they had a separate brand - Field and Stream - that did sell them. Field and Stream is now also stopping selling military weapons.
