U.S. students spilled out of classrooms by the tens of thousands on Wednesday, chanting slogans like “No more silence” and “We want change” as part of a coast-to-coast protest over gun violence prompted by last month’s massacre at a Florida high school. The #ENOUGH National School Walkout was intended to pressure federal and state lawmakers to tighten laws on gun ownership despite opposition by the National Rifle Association (NRA), the powerful gun rights advocacy group. With some students dressed in orange, the color adopted by the gun control movement, the walkouts began at 10 a.m. local time in each time zone and were scheduled to last 17 minutes. Many rallies went longer. The duration was a tribute to 17 students and staff killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14. It was the latest in a series of shootings that have plagued U.S. schools and colleges over the past two decades. While many school districts gave their blessings to the walkouts, others said anyone who participated would face discipline. Many students defied the warnings and left school anyway. They included over two dozen at Lindenhurst High School on New York state’s Long Island, who were at first suspended, then had their punishment reduced to detentions, according to a senior and the school superintendent. But not all students in Florida were in favor of gun control. About 80 miles (129 km) north of Parkland at Vero Beach High School, chants of “No More Silence, end gun violence,” were countered by shouts of “Trump!” and “We want guns” from other students, according to video posted by local newspaper TCPalm. Students from more than 3,000 schools and groups joined the walkouts, many with the backing of their school districts, according to the event’s organizers, who also coordinated the Women’s March protests staged nationwide over the past two years. www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-guns/enough-u-s-student-walkout-sends-message-on-gun-violence-idUSKCN1GQ155

And having an armed security guard didn't prevent a kid from starting shooting. And, of course, the kid still managed to get a gun. Also " it is unclear if the gunman was hit by the guard's gunfire or shot himself."

Maryland is a gun-control supporters dream, considered one of the more strict states on gun rights, Laws on Purchase, Possession and Carrying of Firearms Antiques An antique firearm is defined as a firearm manufactured before 1899, or any replica thereof, which is not designed for firing fixed ammunition or which uses fixed ammunition and is no longer manufactured in the United States or readily available commercially. Antique firearms are exempt from certain requirements of state law. Carrying and Transportation in Vehicles It is unlawful for any person without a permit to wear or carry a handgun, openly or concealed, upon or about his person. It is also unlawful for any person to knowingly transport a handgun in any vehicle traveling on public roads, highways, waterways or airways, or upon roads or parking lots generally used by the public. This does not apply to any person wearing, carrying or transporting a handgun within the confines of real estate owned or leased by him, or on which he resides, or within the confines of a business establishment owned or leased by him. MORE Machine Guns A machine gun is defined as a loaded or unloaded weapon wherein more than one shot may be automatically discharged from a magazine by a single function of the firing device. Possession of a machine gun for an aggressive or offensive purpose is prohibited. A machine gun must be registered within 24 hours of acquisition and annually thereafter with the Secretary of Police. There is a $10 fee. MORE Miscellaneous It is unlawful to alter or obliterate the manufacturer’s identification mark or number on any firearm. Any person in possession of such a weapon will be presumed to have committed the offense. MORE Permit To Carry Application for a permit to carry a handgun is made to the Secretary of State Police. In addition to the printed application form, the applicant should submit a notarized letter stating the reasons why he is applying for a permit. MORE Possession Subject to some exceptions, possession of "assault weapons" is generally prohibited in Maryland. Additionally, Maryland's prohibited person categories for possession of firearms are more extensive than federal law. MORE Preemption The state generally preempts all aspects of firearm and ammunition regulation. MORE Purchase Maryland does not regulate the sale of rifles or shotguns and no permit is required to purchase a rifle or shotgun that is not an "assault weapon." MORE Range Protection § 5-403. 1. Sport shooting ranges MORE Sources: Md. Code Ann., [Criminal Law] § 4 (2004) et seq.; [Public Safety] § 5 (2004) et seq.; NAT. RES., § 10 (2004) et seq. Most of Europe's like the UK - not too much of a gun problem. Wonder why?
Must be something to do with ease of access.
Oh. Really?

A member of our well-regulated militia helping keep our streets safe: Pasco County deputies arrested a man they said fired a gun into a driver's back passenger window during a road rage incident in Land O' Lakes.
Detectives said Melvin Seda Jr., 27, fired a gun near a daycare and shattered someone's car window during the incident.
Seda was texting and driving on July 12 when deputies said he almost swerved into another car on SR 54 around 3 p.m. that day.
Deputies said the driver honked his horn and then Seda went off.
Seda is accused of threatening to shoot the man while yelling out of his window, according to deputies.
Deputies said Seda followed the man down Ballantrae Boulevard and within seconds, shot out the victim's back passenger window at Mentmore Boulevard.
A daycare and two playgrounds are located at this intersection. www.wfla.com/news/pasco-county/deputies-pasco-man-fired-gun-into-man-s-car-window-during-road-rage-incident/1340265001He butter have a good lawyer.

Of course the police don't have a duty to throw themselves in the way of bullets, any more than the underpaid "armed guards" that NRA-nuts want guarding every public and semi-public space in the US would be expected to die protecting people in a shootout.

Knew you wouldn't understand it. Doesn't matter if it's one cop facing a hail of bullets or 50 cops being threatened by one person with a stick, they do not have to protect citizens. Ever watch a cop show where they try to convince the witness to a crime to testify by assuring them they will be under 24 hour police protection? They're lying.
