We should have a reciprocal agreement with decent countries like Australia. Mind you, the NHS is held in such low regard internationally that the Aussies might not consider the two systems equal. We do have a RHCA with Oz. Yep. Saved me some cash except depending where you are you may still pay for quite a lot in Oz. My old doctor I had to pay to see and only some of it was reimbursed by Medicare. Mids comment about the NHS is funny. The way things work here sometimes I miss the NHS. The out of pocket and gap payments can add up.

Wish I’d thought of that. What a great idea!

"Dawn Butler, shadow equalities secretary, told Sky News that Commonwealth citizens were being made to "relive" the trauma of the "no blacks, no Irish, no dogs" days."
That's terrible. What kind of an arsehole doesn't like dogs?

I've often thought - what would happen if a Prime Minister booked a 15 min slot on TV and said to the national "I've really fcuked this up - I'm sorry and I'm going to do my best to sort it out." ?
One side of the Press would crucify her for being weak but I think that a lot of the public would say something along the lines of - yeah ok fair play.
But, of course, sadly none of the current lot from either side have the guts or imagination to do that.

These aren't stupid people but they just can't seem to see past the news cycle management thing. They must know how utterly sick people are of the refusal to admit mistakes and the box-ticking half apologies that happen only when the story won't disappear (I can only apologise if...). Cnuts the lot of 'em.

True. There's a lot to be said for just owning up and apologising sincerely. It almost always gives you the moral high ground too and you can pretty much say "I'm done wearing the hair shirt now."

As Jim Hacker said in Yes Prime Minister, "Honesty always gives you the advantage of surprise in The House of Commons"

Yeah. It's weird. Because the rest of us f**k up every now and again (or more often, for some of us), so why is it that we expect politicians to never cock something up?

Turns out the Windrush was a former Nazi troopship. This is also interesting. "On 7 February 1953, around 200 miles (320 km) south of the Nicobar Islands, Windrush sighted a small cargo-ship, the Holchu, adrift and sent out a general warning. The Holchu was later boarded by the crew of a British cargo ship, alerted by Windrush's warning. They found no trace of the crew and the Holchu was towed to Colombo. She was carrying a cargo of rice and was in good condition aside from a broken mast. Adequate supplies of food, water and fuel were found, and a meal had been prepared in the ship's galley.[23] The fate of Holchu's crew remains unknown and the incident is cited in several works on Ufology." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMT_Empire_Windrush

He should be allowed back in pronto. How did he manage to get to Jamaica without a passport though?

Home Secretary Amber Rudd has apologised for not being aware of "specific" migrant removal targets. The Guardian reported a leaked memo from last year, which suggested Ms Rudd had been informed of those targets. In a series of tweets, Ms Rudd said she had not seen the memo - and apologised for not being aware of the objectives. Ms Rudd added that she would make a statement to the House of Commons on Monday in response to "legitimate questions" about illegal migration. www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-43931118Luckily for Rudd as May was so utterly inept and incompetent as HS, even after this, its unlikely she will wrest the title of 'worst home secretary ever' from May.

I've always thought there was something deeply misogynistic about the criticism of May and Rudd by the left. Deeply.
