Ah yes. That was it. Good film. Could be embarrassing sitting around a dinner table with guests if your time ran out.

It would be interesting to see the supporting data and how they controlled for factors outside the control of the NHS (such as life expectancy and just how shockingly unhealthy Britons are.)

“The charts and tables are based on a straightforward ranking of health care outcomes enabling a direct comparison of the UK’s health system with its international rivals.”
Asked and answered. It appears they did not control for that. (Also that last sentence in the article suggests this has not been compiled by an impartial observer…)

The links are all there.
Interesting that you think that life expectancy is nothing to do with a national, cradle-to-grave, comprehensive health service.

"The choice of comparator countries and the diseases studied follows the methodology used in a 2018 report published jointly by the Health Foundation, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, the King’s Fund and the Nuffield Trust.
Data is derived from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Heath Statistics database."
Oops.
This seems reasonable: "The latest British Social Attitudes survey suggests that the British public is beginning to realise this. While they recognise that the doctors, nurses, porters and medical staff do an amazing job, people are starting to ask serious questions about how good our health system really is.”

Excess management's where a lot of the £ is squandered, according to just about everyone except those in management.

I'm sure that is part of the problem.

There was a report on this the other week. All that extra covid cash resulted in an increase in front line staff of 7% and 20% in admin and management staff. I think those were the numbers.

Shocking how much negative effect 12 years of slash and burn and risibly bad management by a tory government intent on destroying the NHS has achieved. Vote them out save the nation.

So, the countries that have better health outcomes are generally more left wing, more socialist, more social democratic, believe more in the social framework, less capitalist. That it’s the UK and US that are bad seems pretty compelling.

Agreed. The USA is a shithole. The UK government hasn't managed to get the best out of the NHS, left or right.

Interesting that you think the NHS = the nation. No, it's just one of many things showcasing the Tories talent to turn anything it touches to sh*t.

The NHS was supposed to be a subsidised entity designed to provide good free healthcare. The other main problem (nowadays) apart from excess management is abuse of the system: a large percentage of those who seek treatment do't actually need to see a doctor. Runny noses, bad backs, sick notes for malingerers, opiate freaks, and a whole swathe of hypochondriacs are responsible for massive waste.

When it was first founded, it was thought that the NHS would need less and less investment over the years as the nation became healthier.

The more you nurture some people the more demanding they get. There has to be a compromise, like paying to see a doctor maybe?
