It would be interesting to see the supporting data and how they controlled for factors outside the control of the NHS (such as life expectancy and just how shockingly unhealthy Britons are.)

Excess management's where a lot of the £ is squandered, according to just about everyone except those in management.

There was a report on this the other week. All that extra covid cash resulted in an increase in front line staff of 7% and 20% in admin and management staff. I think those were the numbers.

The NHS was supposed to be a subsidised entity designed to provide good free healthcare. The other main problem (nowadays) apart from excess management is abuse of the system: a large percentage of those who seek treatment do't actually need to see a doctor. Runny noses, bad backs, sick notes for malingerers, opiate freaks, and a whole swathe of hypochondriacs are responsible for massive waste.

When it was first founded, it was thought that the NHS would need less and less investment over the years as the nation became healthier.

The more you nurture some people the more demanding they get. There has to be a compromise, like paying to see a doctor maybe?
