No, I liked him, played the part well I thought. It was the cousin, Isaac.

Outland - Largely forgotten Sci-fi flick from 1981. Sean Connery plays the new Marshall of a mining station on one of Jupiter's moons. He takes on the bosses after discovering corruption and drugs trading.
It's like Die Hard but rather than playing the John McClane type hero, he plays it as a dour Scot who has a job to do and stubbornly gets on with it (think Andy Murray winning Wimbledon).
It's not bad. Good waste of a couple of hours when you're full of cold and not up to much else.

The Continental John Wick spin off. Not quite as bad as I expected, but not great.

Went to the cinema to see The Zone Of Interest. Bizarre. Not sure in a good way. What a weird f**k**g film. Also, not sure it told me anything new. Evil is banal.

Poor Things. Mad as a box of frogs. And utterly brilliant. Loved the acting, loved the design, loved the story. Wonderful, all round.

Oppenheimer is much better than Barbie.
Barbie (a) is way better than than any normal person would have have expected it to be (b) because of that people got very excited about it and it's fairly mainstream message about patriarchal society and they have overhyped how good it actually is (c) has a terrible ending that almost ruins it (d) is very easy to watch until the terrible ending and has some great gags
Oppenheimer is (a) better (b) 3 hours long and takes a bit of effort to watch (c) probably a bit dull if you're not the kind of person who cares about quantum physics, US politics, courtroom dramas, history and the fear of nuclear destruction
Neither of them are the best films on the Oscar's best picture list.
Anatomy of a Fall is definitely better Poor Things is definitely better and completely nuts and has a lot of naked Emma Stone Holdovers is probably better, but in a very old fashioned way Zone of Interest is one of the more fascinating holocaust films I've seen - I didn't like it at the time but I've kept thinking about it which suggests it has something going on
Past Lives and American Fiction are both decent but probably on a level with Oppenheimer
Killers of the Flower Moon is long and rubbish and the book was much better Maestro is dull and annoying but also about a subject I don't give a toss about so perhaps it's not targeted at me.

Anyway, we binged something called Expats on Prime, with Nicole Kidman. It starts interestingly but gets worse and eventually boring. Don't bother. It could have been much better.
It did have the message that all Expats, particularly the ones in Hong Kong but I expect its universal, are entitled arseholes and none of the characters, even their children, are likeable in any way.

Finally got round to watching Bodyguard, not too bad I suppose, but not as good as the hype.

Icarus. Very interesting. Just goes to show how, with absolute power, you don't need to be smart. You just do it.

Alphas.
Dunno why I started watching it given the show was cancelled without ending properly. But I really like it.

Aren’t Oppenheimer and Barbie just two completely different films? The comparison is rather weird (also the ending of Barbie was great as was the run up to the end and a lot of the “in jokes” towards the end. And I LOVE America Ferrera’s speech.) Most of the other films I have never heard of except Past Lives and American Fiction (and that is definitely on my list - the premise looks amazing!)

Mayfair Witches. I don't know why I bother, sometimes. Utterly predictable and dull.

Aren’t Oppenheimer and Barbie just two completely different films? Yes, but... they both were released in the same week, made loads of money and are nominated for the same awards. The very end was just fine. The lead up to the end with whats-she-called out of Cheers as the spirit of Mattel was just sh*t. American Fiction has one of the greatest gags I've seen in a film in a very long time. It's well worth watching for the whole thing, but particularly for the one gag.
