When I play checkers with a 6yo kid I always find a way to let them win, when I play the same kid at 12 I kick their arse,, if I can,,,, Is it better to treat the Thai Team like they are 6 or 12?? If you beat the 6yo he'd beat you when he was 12. let him win at 6 and you'll still be able to kick his arse at 12

It was tough to watch in the end, but I'm glad the US didn't do the patronising thing of treating the Thai team like 6 year olds in need of a mercy rule.

They could do without the cheering with every goal, I'll give you that, If the league want's a mercy rule that's fine, but if it is my team if they are on the field they play to score,, nice is what you do after the game

I don't even resent the players cheering their goals. Each goal matters to the individual - and there's still a chance that there's goal difference taken into account in the league table.

I don't think I've seen such a high scoring game since I was 10 and playing in it. The Thai goalie must feel a bit crap.

Didn't Australia beat some team by 30 odd goals once, in a qualifying match?

Germany beat Estonia 8-0 in the mens Euro qualifying yesterday and nobody seems to have said a word. Perhaps it's just women who're not allowed to crush their opponents.

well women's sport is treated with somewhat more condensation, comments about their hair, makeup, looks and so on from a certain element, so I doubt they need much encouragement to rail against them for not easing off when winning easily.

I've not really been following Ladyball 2019 because I don't find football interesting, still less badly-played football.
Is there an element of inclusiveness largesse here? I can imagine the world soccer authorities spunking cash left, right and centre. Can't blame the ladies for saying "yes please" to a free holiday and a trip to Europe.

Yes, there's an element of it, Baloo. FIFA does it for the blokes world cup, too. They have a certain number of qualifiers from each region, even if there are more good European teams than good Asian or African teams. They are concerned with it being a "World" cup so their inclusion criteria are partly geographic. Even though, say, Denmark would have done far better than Thailand did, it wouldn't be a world cup to have a tournament of 22 northern European teams, plus the US and Canada.

well women's sport is treated with somewhat more condensation, comments about their hair, makeup, looks and so on from a certain element, so I doubt they need much encouragement to rail against them for not easing off when winning easily. Wouldn't an excess of condensation itself play havoc with their hair, makeup, looks and so on? FYI, the OVO Energy Women's Cycle Tour 2019 passed along Didcot Broadway and on through Harwell Village on yesterday's Henley to Blenheim Palace stage. Straight up, they blocked the Broadway when one of them came off due to a speed bump (they were going UPHILL at the time), bringing down a bunch of other riders. The good burghers and shop-owners of the town were less than amused as the Broadway then took almost an hour to clear. Compare this with the men's Tour of Britain that passed through nearby Upton and Blewbury a few years ago, where all riders plus support vehicles were through in about 30 seconds flat on the Bath to High Wycombe stage of that ride. I did mention differences between men's and women's spatial awareness last week on here, but I didn't think I'd see it so spectacularly highlighted so soon.
