This made me chuckle:
“The shark bit the leg of the surfer, aged between 50 and 60, off Kingscliff, 800km (500 miles) north of Sydney.”
That location is faaaaar closer to Brisbane but they have decided anybody reading that will only know about Sydney, no other Australian city.

Shark bit that fella's leg clean off and he bled out. Be quite a surprise I expect ! He wasn't even surfing at dusk or dawn (like an not a very nice person) so he was unlucky

I felt a bit like I was in Australia this morning. Went out to water some jacaranda striplings and found a black widow spider just sitting on the outside tap, totally chilled out.
Just to be clear: it was totally chilled out. I wasn't.

That's very cool. Did you take a pic? Did you try to get it to bite you to see what it would be like?

When I was working as a brickies labourer in Oz, often when you worked out of town, the bricks had been sitting around for a while. The stacks would be full of red backs. When you picked up the bricks you had to grab them hard so if you stuck your finger on a red back you squashed it. If you fannied about you were in a world of trouble.

Penzance boy, it turns out. Both Australian shark attack fatalities this year have been expat Brits. Van?
