Trump couldn't read a speech for one minute, let alone 22. Sure, he can ramble inanely for hours on end but he can't concentrate enough to finish a single thought in his sentences.

I'm still mystified as to your continuing support for a proven liar Jim, given how clear you were about how much you hated liars and how little time you have for them.

Fear of the alternative, isn't it? First the genocidal war criminal Clinton, then a senile buffoon who can't remember what day it is never mind hitting the nuclear button, thinking he's calling for nurse to come and change him.

US President Donald Trump's eldest sister, a former federal judge, has said her brother is a liar who "has no principles", secret recordings reveal. The critical remarks by Maryanne Trump Barry were recorded by her niece, Mary Trump, who last month published a book excoriating the president. "His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God," Ms Barry is heard saying. "It's the phoniness and this cruelty." Mary Trump said she had taped her aunt to protect herself from litigation. Mr Trump responded to the latest revelations in a statement issued by the White House, saying: "Every day it's something else, who cares." The recordings were first reported by The Washington Post, after which the Associated Press obtained them. In the secret recordings, Ms Barry criticises the Trump administration's immigration policy, which has led to children being held at migrant detention centres at the border. "All he wants to do is appeal to his base," she said. One of the claims made in Mary Trump's memoir - Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man - is that her uncle paid a friend to take an SAT test for him - a standardised exam which determines university placement. Ms Barry refers to this in the recording, even suggesting that she remembers the name of the friend involved. "He got into University of Pennsylvania because he had somebody take the exams," she said. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53881222

She might well be right, but she's no angel herself, is she? They sound like a rotten family altogether.

Its hilarious, Trump is slated as the main keynote for every night of the convention. Hope he's got asbestos pants on as 4 night of lying his ass off constantly is a massive fire hazard

Half of the speakers at the RNC are from Trump’s family. He’s sooo popular.
The characters at the 2016 convention leading the “lock her up” chants won’t be there because <checks notes> they’re locked up.

Have you seen the GOP platform for this year? There isn’t one, only “we support Donald Trump”. I guess it’s all boiled down to his cult members now.

Its more a 'swearing fealty to the leader' than a political convention.

I wonder if Americky is going to have a landslide election this year. That would be very unusual in a US election (I think) so it may have some unusual products. It's just a shame that the winning candidate isn't some energetic young idealist with a genuinely popular platform rather than the effete answer to a monstrous bellend that's made the country a laughing stock.

There have been presidential landslides before, but can't see it this time, the Trump cult is pretty solid, saw a poll yesterday that had 60% of republicans thinking Trumps handling of Covid was tip top, and that 57% felt the death toll of 175,000 and counting was perfectly acceptable.

Its hilarious, Trump is slated as the main keynote for every night of the convention. He's literally the only person willing to speak in support of himself.

There were a bunch of landslides in the 60s to early 80s (usually then-popular Presidents winning second terms). LBJ with 61% in '64; Nixon with 61% in '72 and Reagan with 59% in '84. There's been nothing like that since. Bush Sr and Obama both had 53% of the vote, and those were described as absolute crushing victories because the expectation is that most of the electorate is basically locked in to their partisan positions and the parties aren't doing much to appeal to anyone but their core voters. But that sample size, from 1988 onwards, is very small, so it's possible that there's some confirmation bias in the explanations. That said, current polling showing a 10% lead for Biden would be considered a massive landslide by modern standards. Most people expect the polls to get tighter as we get closer to election day - the American equivalent of the Shy Tory coming home to the Republicans, along with some of the accidental and deliberate voter turnout issues usually impacting Democratic voters more, and along with the polling moving to "likely voters" from "registered voters" which usually pushes the margin pro-Republican (not clear if that will happen this year as it usually tracks with older voters and educated voters and they are less strongly Republican than in normal years). And I think pretty much everyone expects the Democrats to f**k up somewhere down the line.

never underestimate Joe's ability to f-ck things up,
so far Joe's only running on the fact that he isn't Trump, a fact which Trump will agree with him on

Trump still intent on destroying US democracy, saying the only legitimate outcome is if he wins, anything else is clearly fraud. www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-53898142US President Donald Trump has warned his fellow Republicans their opponents may "steal" November's election, as his party anointed him as their candidate. "They're using Covid to defraud the American people," Mr Trump told delegates on the first day of the party convention in North Carolina. Mr Trump repeated his much-disputed claims that mail-in ballots could lead to voter fraud.

I watched about 10 minutes of convention yestready. It would have been comedy gold if it wasn’t terrifying to realise that these people actually believed their nonsense. Racist barefoot gun couple had what looked like a hostage video, but said that Marxists are going to abolish the suburbs - and put so many dog whistles in that the dogs in St Louis must have been going crazy. The Kimberley Guilfoyle (Trump Jr’s girlfriend) shouted angrily at an empty room. The Guilfoyle thing genuinely looked like a Saturday Night Live sketch, except funnier.
