Spunking knobs were often drawn on walls or carved into the tops of wooden desks. Does that count? Like many of these studies, you really have to get into definitions to make a judgement of how serious the problem is and it's not always easy to find them. For example, the TUC included overhearing inappropriate comments of jokes as sexual harassment and I wouldn't be surprised if Ofsted used similar definitions. I doubt if there are many teenagers or adults in Britain who haven't heard or overheard a dirty joke.

I certainly don't remember any incidents of sexual touching in school. Can't think of any comments made either. We just didn't do that.
Most troubling thing never saw was an old Royal Artillery warrant officer who had come in to check out our CCF training. He had one of the girls sit on his lap, which seemed odd at the time. Frightening now, with hindsight. The old letch.
Something must have been said as I was asked about it. Had the RSM found out the guy would have met with a nasty fall.

I’m pretty sure that in our school there was inappropriate stuff from some kids. Generally around the 13-15 age range: lots of “Show us yer tits” which is the offline version of asking to see nudes, I guess. And quite a lot of “Debbie let me look at her tits” and “I shagged Samantha” which were almost certainly untrue but either way were very *friendly* person-shaming, the kind of thing that can be very damaging when it becomes common currency among the fourth form.
The fact that you can do it online now will make it more widespread because it’s easier to conceal, I think. The difference is that kids have phones and we didn’t. If we had phones I suspect a fair number of girls would have got “send us a pic of yer fanny” texts

I didn’t see this morning’s partial eclipse. I woke up in time but the sun was eclipsed by horizon and then trees and I wasn’t enthusiastic enough to actually leave the house at 5:30 in the morning in the hope of seeing it.

There was a lot of talk about tits and fannies out of girls' earshot and who was or wasn't a "ride". Teenage boys aren't very subtle or self-aware so it's likely a fair bit of that was overheard but it wasn't directed at girls as far as I can remember.

Lots of sexual stuff at my school, from bra strap pulling, a bit of casual groping to some to girls getting knocked down and fully groped by a few lads, plus a lot of sexual name calling and show us ya tits.
My school was generally quite a violent place from the teachers on down. I doubt Baloo private school is very representative of most of the schooling in the UK then or now

And did you complain to the headmaster about your experiences?

And did you complain to the headmaster about your experiences? He stayed on for an extra year.

Violence was very rare at school. We just learned to get on with each other. Bullying was almost non-existent. Just wasn't tolerated in much the same was as being a creep with the girls wouldn't have been.
If violence did ever break out out it was spectacular. Largely the kids of military officers who played sport every day. High levels of kinetic energy could be released with appalling results. I once saw a lad (Royal Marines family) beaten to a bloody pulp in a silly spat about the way he ate custard creams. Julian was so badly smacked in that I couldn't recognise him when he walked past me in the company of our house master.

The lower ground floor cloakrooms were a no-go area for the girls. But it was generally the same gang who were the culprits. I confess to grabbing a girl's tits - in my own defence I'll add she was provocative - but was punched in the face for my trouble. Fourteen years of age; never laid a hand on a bird since . Well, you know...

Violence wasn't very common at my school. There was bullying though.

Same here. Violence was very rare, maybe non-existent. But lots of bullying and definitely all sorts of stuff that looking back on now you realise was inappropriate. Smart phones would have made it worse, because it wasn't the overt physical stuff that was the problem. It was the covert stuff and psychological bullying which is so much easier if there's nothing to be witnessed.

Violence was rare at my high school, although I do remember the year before entering, our 8th grade class went there to see what it would be like. As our group was walking down the hall a fight broke out between a couple of high schoolers, rolling around on the floor with fist flying, lol.
Sexual harassment not so much as I recall. Like mids said, lots of talk among the boys, which is hardly unexpected. SH isn't only done to women though, when I was on a train in Tokyo a woman in front of me reached behind and gave me a good feel before getting off (the train). I thought it was outrageous. She could have invited me up or something.

The last day of school was almost certainly the worst, it was like the purge, scores settled, kids ambushed and others kicked down the stairs. At the end of the 5th form I remember getting jumped and covered in shaving foam, but of a laugh really, but my glasses got broke in the scuffle so I was very passed off, as I walked up the stairs to find a toilet to wash the stuff off some forth former laughed so I lashed out kicking him hard in the balls and thumping him in the face, I couldn't really see who it was as I had no glasses and foam in my eyes, but I hit his glasses and the lense shattered, cutting my knuckle to the bone and cutting his face quite badly.
Some teacher saw my and got me cleaned up a bit and took me to the nurse who asked "was this Voice, he just really beat up some kid' I replied 'kind of'
When I got home my mum refused to take me for my hand to be stitched up, and made me cycle the 4 miles to the hospital.
When we all back next year nothing was even said. It was too minor an incident to bother with.
