Meanwhile, the Skynet takeover is kind of funny because it seems to have ignored almost everyone. But it has hit lots of huge and high profile organisations. News General remains up while half the world’s airlines were down. Derailed some of our teams at work - alas not mine. Although oddly my bank payment platform was affected but not notifications sent to customers.

Shame, he sounded competent, which is more than can be said for the teachers.

What he should have done was just to point out the legal requirement for the kids to be strapped in, and refused to go on. The company will have been paid, either way, and it would have been down to the teachers to explain why the trip was cancelled.

He should have stopped the bus and refused to go any further until they behaved themselves. Only for half an hour because he needs to get home. Then, if they were behaving themselves, driven them to wherever they were going without the useless public sector teachers, who would be dumped. If they weren't behaving after half an hour, everyone should have been chucked off. Also acceptable would be shouting at the kids and threatening them with violence.

Why are these people here, again? "The sobbing father of children 'taken away by police' broke down and begged for their return after members of the Roma community gathered in Leeds on Friday night in solidarity with the family following a night of rioting in the city on Thursday. The family gathered in front of the wreckage of a burnt-out double decker bus to appeal for the return of their children after police removed several children from a house on Luxor Street on Thursday, sparking civil unrest. 'Please bring my children back. I want them back. Why take my kids? They were taken from us,' the father from Romania told The Mirror on Friday. A family friend told the outlet the father had tried to stop the riots when they broke out on Thursday night and 'wants calm'. Members of the Roma community later gathered in solidarity with the family on Friday in peaceful protest, chanting 'Please bring the kids back!' over the decision to remove them from the home." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13654123/leeds-father-sobbing-children-roma-crowd-streets-riots.html

It’s quite depraved that in a story of likely child abuse the only thing you care about is the residency status of the parents. Do better.

How are we otherwise enriched? They already owe us for a bus and a panda.

I've never given the Albert Memorial any thought until now but I never realised how utterly brilliant it actually is. What an amazing and great structure it is. "Prince Albert’s memorial is “considered offensive” because it reflects a “Victorian view of the world that differs from mainstream views held today”, custodians say. The 176ft Albert Memorial opposite the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington Gardens, west London, was built to honour Queen Victoria’s late husband in 1872, when the British Empire stretched across the globe. It includes a golden sculpture of the Prince Consort himself, along with four groups of large statues representing the people and animals of four continents. Asia is depicted as a woman on an elephant, America as a native American, and Africa as a woman riding a camel. The African sculpture also includes a white European woman reading a book to a black African tribesman. The Royal Parks website now says that the Albert Memorial’s “representation of certain continents draws on racial stereotypes that are now considered offensive”." www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/07/20/albert-memorial-considered-offensive-royal-parks/

The smug, self-serving, pious establishment of the patrician Left. QV Brexit. QV the appearance of the word "populist" to describe politics that appeal to the little people, but which aren't acceptable to Guardian readers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c72vjlgl4j8o
