Terrorist scum sent to jail forever. The reporting on this case has been very odd. Very odd indeed. There's been almost nothing about the homophobic nature of the murders and certainly no prolonged campaign of comment pieces railing against homophobia. Very odd. "The man who murdered three people within a minute in a Reading park was driven by terrorism and has been sentenced to spend his whole life in jail. Khairi Saadallah, 26, carried out the attacks on 20 June last year during which he shouted “Allahu Akbar”. The victims were enjoying a summer evening during the first coronavirus lockdown in Forbury Gardens, Reading. Saadallah was sentenced at the Old Bailey on Monday, having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to the three murders and three attempted murders. The victims, all fatally stabbed within 60 seconds, were James Furlong, 36, a history teacher; David Wails, 49, a scientist; and Joseph Ritchie-Bennett, 39, an American pharmaceutical worker. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jan/11/reading-attacker-khairi-saadallah-given-whole-life-prison-sentence

Why is it 'Odd. Strange.'?
Isn't homosexuality normal nowadays? Like being non-white. Or a teacher. Or a 50 year old who prefers diverse sexual activity with consenting 16 year olds. It's all normal nowadays.

Seems likely, given the RoP's attitude to the lifta-khaftanis.

I don't know but, if I was a betting man, I would suggest that he picked on a group of gay lads because of the extra points, kudos and mentalist religious justification for doing so.
It's speculation, but I think even the most stone-agey of saliphists might wince at the stabbing of, say, a group of little girls.
He might well have staked out the venue as somewhere where gay blokes were known to hang out. Again, dunno, but it may also be that he didn't fancy his odds against the lads with the beer and the football.

I could understand that assumption had the attack happened at a Pride event but I can’t see where it says he knew they were gay?

Oh, and that group of men? I suspect that they weren't too tricky to single out. We are told that he had carefully prepared for this attack, albeit we are also told that he had only recently been let out of the loony bin.

Evidence that he knew they were gay and targeted them because of that. Him being Muslim is a leap given how after his alleged (according to you and Mids) hate crime another Muslim was involved in trying to chase him down.

If it's a leap, it's not much of one.

If it's a leap, it's not much of one. Without him knowing they were gay it’s a pretty massive leap.

Why is that? I think if you did a Venn diagram of RoPers you would find that not all muslims were homophobic but absolutely every saliphist would be, or at least they'd claim to be. You know, the ones who shout "Allahu Albar" before they use a tank to push a wall over on some chained-up homosexuals.

Anyway, my point wasn't about whether he knew they were gay, it was about the muted reaction to the murders. Normally, the media is feverish with speculation and condemnation whenever a "protected characteristic" is attacked. Remember the lesbians on the bus? Weeks of feverish speculation, condemnation and general hysteria. One of the attacked even got to write a column in the Guardian. Not this time time though. Strangely muted. Odd, even. Odd.
