I can only answer as one of the permanently cool, take people as I find them brigade. One of our adminy-type people had she/her in her Zoom call name at our department meeting the other day. I vaguely thought, "bit of a tit" then promptly forgot about it.

I don't give much of a sh*t about anything unless it affects me. And yet you've been clutching your pearls about a few trans women playing on the odd collage sports team, teams you'll never see or get to try out for.

Couldn't care less. Happy to play along as a courtesy. Indulge them. Bless.

Saying that, I'm not putting "my pronouns" anywhere for anyone to see. If people can work it out for themselves, fine. If they can't, fine. Not that I've "got pronouns" in the first place. There are pronouns out there but none of them belong to me.

You're using the 'pearls' trope a bit too much btw. Loses its effect after a while - just a tip.

Like Mids, I'm not about to put my pronouns in my email. It seems kind of like a performance and isn't necessary.
There is a counter-argument that I fully understand, though: If enough people put their pronouns in their email, then nobody will feel like they're making a big deal by including theirs. And suddenly all our pearl clutchy types who're all "I didn't know Xey wanted to be called Xem so I keep misgendering him" will lose their stupid argument and can instead spend their time working out how to pronounce Xey.

I tend the whole pronoun thing a bit a bit wankers tbh, though I do notice it's done by a mix of right on virtue signalers and people who get very offended if you use the wrong one.

I don't get the pronoun thing when it's obvious the person is not identifying with the opposite sex (or any of the infinite variations in between).
Is it a supposed to be a show of solidarity?

It's supposed to make it a non-event when a non-binary person puts their pronouns down. If everyone does it, it's just not a big deal when someone puts "they/them". Everyone just accepts it, knows what to use and moves along. If the only person putting their pronouns down is the non-binary it makes it look like a big fussy deal when it shouldn't be.

I see. Make it a non-event by making it a ubiquitous event.

Ignore it, silly theater for narcissists! Do you think someone you might be buying a product from is a bit of a performative arse if they include it, or do you just ignore it and not even notice? Would it change your attitude towards them if you saw it?

In a couple of years, everyone will have moved on past this silly fad and people who dabbled in it will not thank you to remind them of it.

I see. Make it a non-event by making it a ubiquitous event. I think that's the theory. Also useful if "Channing Montgomery" emails you. You think: "Channing Tatum's a bloke, but Channing Stockard's a bird - I wish I knew which pronoun to use for this emailer".

Yes, or "Rainbow Phillips", I can see that.
Carol used to be a name used by men back in the day.

Why would you need to use someone's pronouns in an email? Just refer to them by name.

No, I saw this with a few people in movies from the 40s-50s.
Carol Reed was one.
Edit: to Baloo
