If that phrasing turns out to be correct, then there's no abortion ban coming into the US. It will be permitted in the liberal coastal states where most Republican politicians live and keep their daughters. It will be banned in the crazy states - and even then really only banned for poor people, because rich people can travel to the coasts.
But also if that phrasing turns out to be correct, the crazy states can go and ban gay marriage and interracial marriage and contraceptive access and all kinds of things. It is, it appears, a concerted attempt to drive parts of the US back to mediaeval times while retaining all the privileges that white Republican politicians need when they're in Washington.

The point about their daughters is correct and you should probably add where they keep their mistresses too. And yep abortion bans really mainly impact poor women. Wealthy people will continue to access them as they always have.

Did ananyone else hear Gloria Allred on the BBC R4 yesterday afternoon?
I thought she came across really badly, making it all about herself and her own righteousness.
The thing is, she's a massive ego on a stick and always has been, from her bio. It's a shame they couldn't have got a more thoughtful woman on to speak about this terrible business.

In her autobiography she describes how, during a vacation in Acapulco in 1966, she was raped at gunpoint. She discovered she was pregnant and sought an abortion. Abortion was illegal at the time, so Allred had a back-alley abortion. After undergoing the procedure, she began hemorrhaging and became infected, only recovering after being hospitalized. She did not report the rape, she said, because she did not think anyone would believe her.
Wiki
She sounds thoughtful enough.

You know, I am so jaded that my first thought on hearing that she'd been raped at gunpoint in Mexico was how convenient that was to her narrative. Overseas, unrecorded etc.
Of course, any victim of sexual assault has the right to be taken seriously. But lawyers? Especially rights lawyers? Dunno, it always feels like their own image and standing is much more important than the cause they claim to care about. Also, lawyers are professional liars.

Today's media. We're all in danger of becoming like this, inured to the suffering of others.
It's interesting and complex: increasingly, qualifications are being asked for before anyone's view is given any deal of respect, the irony being that those 'qualified' are part of a homogenous body all of whom think and speak alike, and often lacking real-life experience.
