Well, you've been shrieking for Shamina Begum to be prosecuted here for any alleged crimes committed abroad. (You don't really want her prosecuted, you just want her to come back here).

I commented on her prosecution and where it should occur? Pretty sure you made that up. Arguing that the UK should not be rendering its citizens stateless B and that a race-based two tier citizenship system is wrong is a completely different topic which even you should grasp. Anyway given that the US fundies have stated they won’t prosecute women for accessing abortion then their need for the information makes even less sense.

I see that British chick has been freed from jail for doing an illegal abortion on herself. Probably the right decision although she did commit a crime.

The going after medical records thing is chilling, why does the government need them if they aren't planning some form of retribution.
A lot of this stems from the Texas vigilanty law granting ordinary citizens the right to go after any woman having an abortion or those assisting them to travel out of state to have an abortion. They even have a snitch line for reports of suspected abortion activities.
All very Stasi.

It seem absolutely bananas. And I wonder how it's going to play out when they try and stop straight, white Christian couples who want kids from having kids.
But in the primaries in these states, foetal personhood is still - bizarrely - a vote winner

Absolutely stark raving mad. Why people live in some of those Southern states is beyond me.

Chief Justice Tom Parker issued a concurring opinion in which he quoted the Bible in discussing the meaning of the phrase “the sanctity of unborn life” in the Alabama Constitution. “Even before birth, all human beings bear the image of God, and their lives cannot be destroyed without effacing his glory,” Parker said. Human life, Parker wrote, “cannot be wrongfully destroyed without incurring the wrath of a holy God, who views the destruction of His image as an affront to Himself.” Absolute madness. What is it about these Republican Theocratic party types that are so big on being willfully stupid?

Its all part of the push by the GOP to ban all abortion, contraceptive and now IVF nationwide, by taking this to the Supreme Court and getting fetal personhood enshrined in law, if this one fails there will be others attempting this.

John Oliver: Equating IVF with actual people was “wrong for a bunch of reasons—mainly if you freeze an embryo, it’s fine. If you freeze a person you have some explaining to do.”

Well they're in damage-control mode over IVF because they generally favor it.
So now they're wracking their brains to come up with a solution that explains how they want it both ways. Shouldn't be hard as it doesn't need to make an iota of sense.

If I was a Democrat strategist I could have hardly come up with a better way of f**k**g up the Republicans.
They're all signing on to "foetal personhood" bills that say that all foetuses and embryos are people from the moment of conception - because otherwise you have to draw a line that allows some abortion.
So they're fully committed to this nonsense, but haven't had to think through its logic.
Now, someone has made a massively high-profile point that asks "are embryos and foetuses people?" because if they are, clearly freezing embryos and disposing of them during IVF is murder. Which means that IVF is murder.
And now it's really easy to f**k up hundreds of candidates by asking "Are foetuses people" and "do you think IVF should be banned". It won't change anybody's policies but it will be a great way of reminding the electorate in November how dangerous the Republican Party is.

In "How to be a Complete Unabashed Hypocrite Lesson 3,216", the Republicans in Alabama have passed a "fix" to protect IVF from their draconian abortion law. Now. although they hold that fertilized eggs are full-fledged humans and that no woman at any time can get an abortion (even to save her life), they've decided that for some miraculous reason fertilized eggs in IVF clinics are something altogether different and may be disposed of without fear of the law OR the wrath of an angry God. One of the biggest failings of the Democrats is how they fail to capitalize on their messaging in response to this type of crackpot logic. www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/alabama-fertility-clinic-says-will-resume-ivf-services-bill-passes-pro-rcna141682
