Sorry must be one of the other US Taliban states getting sued for endangering women's health. And yes states control most aspects of health, but the feds can step in to protect women being put at danger by Vanilla ISIS and to stop vexatious prosecution of Dr's, who save women's life's, by the extremists. And getting back to your point about voting for pro bodily autonomy candidates, well as you know, due to the gerrymandering many of the insane states have built in one party rule, and we know non of those will ever put this to a statewide referendum unless forced to, because if they can loose in Kansas they can loose everywhere. gerrymandering does nothing for referendums, they are state-wide, not by district if the population of any state wants to be Pro Choice or Pro Life they can choose, it's called democracy, all or at lease most states that are now Pro-life have an exception for woman's life

As we noted, it shouldn't be in the hands of the state to kill, or destroy the life of, its citizens.
But even if we took what you say at face value, gerrymandering controls the legislatures. And the legislatures can control what goes on to the ballot for direct democracy, and control how it can pass - hence Florida's 60% majority requirement. It's also why only three measures are on for Florida in 2022, and all of those are introduced by the legislature. Because they've restricted how signatures can be gathered. They're restricted how long signatures are valid for. They've restricted how much non-legislature money can be used for these things. It is possible that all these hurdles can be overcome, but it's not a straight simple question of whether a majority in the state are in favour of healthcare or not.
It's also worth noting that even when measures did manage to pass that hurdle in Florida, the legislature took it upon itself to completely screw with the results of the referendum and create all kinds of new restrictions, as in the case of the referendum granting former felons the right to vote, which passed with a massive majority but which the legislature promptly crashed down on by creating an addition impossible hurdle for these people to vote. I can't imagine they'd not do that in the case of abortion freedoms being granted by referendum.

It's democracy Jim, but not as it should be. When the rulers pick the voters, as so often happens in red states, rather than the voters picking the rulers it's not real democracy.

In fact, the Kansas referendum was designed to be anti-democratic. Long ago Kansas had deemed that the right to privacy (such as noted in the US's 14th amendment) included the right to abortion treatment.
The legislature then had to try to overturn the constitution by bringing in this amendment.
But they knew it was hugely unpopular. So they tried to have the vote on it during an election where only Republicans were expected to vote - during a primary when there were no competitive Democrat races but there were a bunch of competitive Republican ones.
And then they actually actively lied in their advertising to claim (how very on-brand for Republicans on sex stuff) No means Yes. They were trying to get people who support abortion rights to vote "Yes".
Basically, they did all they could to try and rig the vote and not actually test the will of the Kansan people.

And there was a lot of dirty tricks from the regressives, especially when it was looking more likely they'd loose, sending out flat out lies in text messaging doing all sorts of things to suppress the vote, missdirecting voters and so on.
More of the usual stuff the GOP is doing accross the board to undermine democracy, sowing the seeds for another Coup by saying the only legitimate elections are the ones they win

Another Trump appointed judge who hates women having freedom over their body has stopped the use of Mifepristone, saying the FDA didn't test it, despite it being put through trials over 4 years and proven to be safe and in use for well over 20 years. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-65217437Why do the right hate and fear women?

Weird. They want everyone to carry guns but don't want women to have the say over their own bodies.

The Democrats don't like school kids being safe with armed guards at schools because they point to school killings to augment their agenda of more gun restrictions

That's bollocks. I'm ex armed forces and know damn well I could rock up at my daughter's school with a gun.
Nobody would stop me because they all recognise me. Even if there were armed guards, I could easily take out a dozen kids/staff before getting shot. And I obviously wouldn't be expecting to walk away.
Not planning on doing such a thing btw, but the only way to stop me would be preventing me having a gun.

The Republicans don't like school kids being safer with sensible gun reforms because they think a few school killings is a price worth paying to augment their agenda of more guns Fixed it

On a more serious note, reps attempts to get a nation wide ban on medical abortions has failed..
Battle won, but the war to grant woman bodily autonomy again goes on.

I guess that the corruption in the Supreme Court works for once. Pharma doesn’t want the FDA approval process to be meaningless and overturned at the random whims of random judges. And the judges are owned even more by big business than they are by culture war trolls.

The onward March to fascism. 19 Republican AGs want access to the private medical records of any woman who travels out of state for any medical treatment to see if they get an abortion, they've been trying to ban women from traveling if they suspect the woman may be getting an abortion or buying Plan C even contraceptives, so far those efforts are failing, but these Taliban tribute acts are not letting that set back stop them from trying to exhert total control over women in their states. mississippitoday.org/2023/07/13/lynn-fitch-abortion-rules-change-track-info/I think we can finally burry the myth the GOP are the party of small government, De Santos is already training his own brown shirts, other GOP governor's are looking at this and planning their own. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/jul/15/ron-desantis-florida-state-guard-militia-veterans-quit

I am confused as to how people can be prosecuted for carrying out an activity that is legal in the state in which it occurs just because they are habitually resident in a different state? Edit: Reading the link now - they won’t be prosecuting women for abortions so the reasons given for needing access to the data appears rather weak. At the least I suspect it’s to prosecute those who “facilitate” women being able to access abortion .
