Yeah, I'm not really thinking about kids being kids. It's more adults being kids. I despise the whole casual thing. It's usually a form of weaselry.

Casual in what sense? Football thug casuals? Casual clothing? If so, what qualifies as casual? Do you wear a three piece suit to bed? Are your slippers patent leather?

Oh, you know, that "cool, cool" approach. I'm certainly not vert formal, but in-your-face mateyness makes me very wary. It's a bit like coppers calling people "mate". Don't do it, and don't let anyone else do it. In the first instance, it sets a difficult and false relationship and in the second instance it (often) sets a relationship off on the wrong foot. I'm perfectly happy to be called by my given name, but"mate" is a bit constructive. They know that.

See, "sonny Jim" is fine. It's a bit paternalistic and friendly, but there's no question about who's in charge.

Don't ask me how I am. Tell me what you want and what you have in mind. I'm not your friend. it's business. Now be businesslike.

That's okay. I don't care about informality. I don't like the assumed paliness and the attendant obligation.
Equality is fine. I respect you. I assume you are honest. I owe you nothing more.

I felt slightly uncomfortable when a black bouncer called me boss the other week.

I actually like people and don't want to live in a hierarchical society where caps are doffed to our elders and "betters".

Nobody's suggesting that. Instructive that that's where you went. Very Oxford.

Anyway, as Voice said yesterday, Boris is a lame duck, holed below the waterline. Has he sunk yet?
Is his goose cooked?
Has this bird flown?
Or is he an ostrich with his head in the sand?
Why are 200 Tory MPs turkeys voting for Christmas?
The cat is definitely amongst the pigeons.

I quite enjoy "chief" as a term of address for casual interactions (me to them). It's good fun and sets a tone for nobody taking themselves too seriously.

Compare and contrast to 18:00hrs yesterday - chip papers and soggy BBC Kleenex. Boris may well be gone by Autumn. Whoop-di-doo. He's a politician. His shout.

Here it's usually "hey guys" to a group, or "hey bud" to an individual.
Bit nicer than Branford where it was usually "oi cnut" or something equally delightful.

"Alright, you soppy cunt?" can actually be rather affectionate.

"Boris Johnson is coming under pressure from his MPs to cut taxes after surviving a vote of confidence. Supporters of the prime minister believe the move would help rebuild unity in the Conservative Party - and help with the cost of living." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61726091This sort of thing makes me very nervous. We don't need tax cuts. Tax is necessary. We should pay enough and we should pay according to our wealth. It's morally wrong to cut taxes for the sake of getting public support.

Well the idea that taxes don't need to go up a bit after giving the whole country a year off work is a bit daft. Of course we should approach the problem from the other end and trim all the useless expenditure. Diversity stuff, most quangos, the BBC, Gary Lineker etc.
