I see the BoE are making similar moves on interest rates and Fed here raised rates here last week for similar problems of soring inflation.
Yeah a recession is coming, a bit part of this is all the money spunked into economies by governments across the western world and beyond to stave off a total collapse during covid, there was always going to a reckoning I suppose. We'll only know later if those billions spent in 20 and 21 stopped a much bigger disaster or just put it off for a year or so.

anyway, back to the actual traitors. GOP lawmakers letting violent insurrectionists scope the Capitol before the attempted coup. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61820372US lawmakers investigating the Capitol riot have shown video of a Republican giving a tour to a man who they say returned on the day of the attack. Congressman Barry Loudermilk, the committee says, was seen with a group that includes a person who was among those outside Congress the next day.

It looks pretty bad for Loudermilk. He's already well known as being extremely Trumpy and very election-denier-y, so exactly the kind of person you'd distrust.
Then he takes people on a tour on a day that the Capitol is closed.
And he takes that tour to parts of the Capitol that tourists never go.
And on that tour are people who're going to be involved in the attempted coup the next day.
And those people are taking photos of weak spots and access points while on Loudermilk's tour.
There may be an entirely innocent explanation, but you'd have to be a bit one-eyed to not at least start asking questions about what happened here.

And apparently he was not alone is helping the insurrectionists scope the place out, several new members were doing the same, Boebert and Green among the more unhinged extremists types doing it.

So we’re all agreed that a big recession is coming in the States and they are getting their first female President with Kamala Harris…. This year or next is now the question?🤔

not just the US, the UK is already there and much of Europe not far behind.
Though 8 years of President Harris is certainly on the books at some point, doubt she'll take over next year, though if she did she'd get 10 years, what's not to like?

So we're agreed that Biden is a senile fool and a huge, incompetent traitor? Good.

Funnily enough, France's plodding, old fashioned, bureaucratic approach to business is keeping inflation down.

Absolutely mindblowing testimony today from the assistant to Trump's chief of staff.
Trump told security to turn off metal detectors so people with weapons could get into the riot Trump actively attacked his own security when they told him he had to go back to the White House and not go to the Capitol Trump had such a hissy fit when AG Barr said there was no evidence of systematic fraud that he threw his lunch at the wall in the WH smearing ketchup down it
(which is a reminder that Trump really is just a tantrum throwing 4 year old - who eats ketchup over that age?)
Mark Meadows knew in advance that things were going to get "real bad" Lots of people in the WH the day before the coup attempt were talking about the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers

You have to ask, where is the justice department? How much more evidence is needed of high crimes and treason.

I think they're never going to charge Trump because the consequences are probably too messy and the level of proof needed is probably too high. Instead they're going to get everyone around him and use that to implicate him.
Meanwhile in "They're playing 1-D chess, while we're playing 4-D chess" news, everyone in the Republican Party and particularly in Trumpworld are livid at Kevin McCarthy for opting out of this Jan 6 hearing, so now there are no Republicans who can sabotage and smear and play dirty and ask totally pointless questions about non-issues. They're right that it's a f**k up for them, because these hearings would be much less compelling with all that mess. The trouble for them is that they're the ones who pushed McCarthy to opt out, to make sure there weren't friendly pro-Trump people on the committee. They didn't want anything to do with it.

Their biggest problem is all the truly compelling and damaging stuff coming out are from republican insiders, people in the room, people at the plot meetings, even his own family. It's getting harder to keep claiming this is a Democrat witch hunt.
After today Meadows is looking like toast.

As for Trump, you gotta wonder just how deluded that fat fcuker really is, I mean did he really expected to grab a steering wheel hijack the vehicle and choak out some trained secret service agent with those teeny tiny hands.

It's getting harder to keep claiming this is a Democrat witch hunt. After today Meadows is looking like toast. I think that's a deliberate move by the committee. Have almost all the questioning done by the woman who is Dick Cheney's daughter, who get elected as a Republican in Wyoming, and who was until recently number 3 in the House Republican caucus. And to have almost everyone interviewed either be law enforcement or Republican or Trump Insider. I think it's a very good move. Nobody needs to hear what I think about it. Nor even Nancy Pelosi even if she was being targeted. Instead it's all insiders, all Republicans, all people who were part of the Trump project, all people who were appointed by Trump. It's very hard to pretend all the things they're saying are part of an anti-Republican witch-hunt. Meadows sounded so f**k**g pathetic today. Either actively enabling Trump or completely apathetic to everything that was going on./

Whatever. Thinking longer term, we don't need him re-elected. If he is we could have war in Europe without US support. He's mad enough to support Putin.

One of the very surprising things is how little pushback there has been to yesterday's testimony from Republicans. Only Trump is suggesting that she was lying. Everyone else is either saying "So what?" or staying silent. Which is pretty telling, I think. I do wonder if the Republican Party is beginning to quietly shift its loyalty. They certainly have no idea how to defend him on this at the moment, so either they're moving to DeSantis or they're trying to work out how to play this and don't have any f**k**g idea (like Kevin McCarthy was on Jan 6th and 7th).

As I understand it, those witnesses are recognised anti-Trump Republicans and their testimonies are heresay; ie; they weren't actually present when Trump was supposed to have done the things he is accused of. Also, two Whitehouse security men who were with him have sworn on oath he didn't do the things he's being accused of.

Not quite true. Hutchinson clearly was present for a bunch of it. Also, I don't think the security dudes have sworn anything under oath yet. They claim to be willing to swear under oath to one very specific allegation which Hutchinson already says was hearsay, about whether Trump lunged at a steering wheel.

Yes, it was the steering wheel thing. Someone added that it was also most unlikely an unfit and fat 70+ year-old could launch himself across the front seats of a limo past security to grab the wheel.
The other accusations mentioned, that he encouraged the uprising, were heresay apparently. But I'd imagine your version's a better one than the one I heard on the radio, you being there 'n all that.

Most of the testimonies have been from close Trump loyalists, people in the room, people in the know. Most have also said they'd still vote for him.
The republican party no longer controls the mob the mob controls them, it's why they can't and won't dump Trump. They all think his a duche but saying so looses them their seat/job and they are cast out. They prefer to keep the party together even it's swamped by crazies and could well lead to the fall of American democracy cos to most of them it appears they'd rather see that than open the door for another dem win.
