In related traitor news, now Putin's lost his US asset in the White House, Fox news has stepped in to fill the void, most especially Tucker Carlson, the mega rich hair to a frozen foods fortune, has become Putin's main propagandist in the US. Not that its much of a surprise Tuckers hard for Putin and many other far right authoritarians such as Victor Orban www.thedailybeast.com/how-tucker-carlson-is-boosting-russias-new-propaganda-warIts weird, till quite recently even the far right was essentially still loyal to the nation, but these days they prefer the enemies of the state who they think will deliver them to power, even if its as a vassal, as they think thats better than any one else having power. The GOP is no longer a party that believes in democracy.

Biden's still there, encouraging Putin to invade the Ukraine. Putin's faithful old lapdog.

I see Biden's now saying that the midterms will be illegitimate.

It's very odd all that. Russia has a GDP like that of Italy. I don't see the strategic gain for Putin. He'll end up with a COIN disaster if he invades. I suspect it's just sabre-rattling and winter manoeuvres.

He doesn't like NATO (the US) strutting around on his doorstep - Romania, Bulgaria and bizarrely to a lesser degree the Ukraine, so as a message to his own citizens who are becoming increasingly anti-him he's doing a bit of his own strutting in the shape of "Hey! Look what I can do - face up to the US aggressor. Best keep me in power."

I suspect it's just sabre-rattling and winter manoeuvres. Isn’t the fact that Russia has an absolutely f**k*d economy the problem? Russia’s in the sh*t and going downhill and Putin has to do something to shore up support domestically. He seems unable or unwilling to do that economically, so he’s got to appeal to the Greater Russia nationalist bullshit thing instead. A full blown war, or even economic sanctions, will probably be very bad for Putin, but some fringe belligerence might be just the ticket. Which might explain Biden’s words about “minor incursions”. The west probably won’t freak out about a few Russians sneaking over the border and a handful of shots fired. They don’t want to go full escalation over that stuff. But if full organised units are moving into Ukrainian territory, that’s a different matter entirely. I suspect it will all be a bit India-Pakistan for a while. Massed troops and occasional token shooting matches and a handful of dead soldiers and “manoeuvres” that “accidentally” find troops on foreign soil but fairly rapidly meandering back to their own side.

I was reading a bit about Ukraine's military and apparently they're half decent, relative to Russia's anyway. Not enough to withstand a full on Russian assault but enough to beat off one of Biden's "incursions".

Yeah, that all makes sense I suppose. It's sabre-rattling to appease the Mother Russia nationalist element who don't seem to be able to understand that she's a broken down old alcoholic with a T-34 fixation.
I agree that conditions are ripe for a "navigation error" on winter manoeuvres. It's unlikely that anyone's going to thump them with a HEAT round, but that's probably just as well and we should probably just get used to this tedious posturing as an annual fixture.
I imagine that we have people on the ground which will make things #awkski if push comes to shove.

Mid-winter's not really campaigning season, is it. Hard to hide a red hot IR signature against snow and ice.

I read the other day the window for Putin is closing, least for a bit, as winters fine for his tanks cos the ground is frozen, but in about 4 to 6 weeks the spring thaw will make it impossibly muddy for up to 2 months, so he may want to send em in pretty soon, hence all the rush to head him off this past week or so. If reports of him manufacturing his own Operation Konserve are to be believed, it could be soonish.

I imagine that the Yanks have got a few start-of-the-art anti-tank tubes stacked up nearby.

Interesting day for the sedition party, Pence stood up at the federalist society and said that which must never be said "Trump was wrong to try and overthrow the election" and that there was "no basis to think Pence could do it for him". Sure he stopped short of calling him out on his continuing to push the big lie and other clearly seditious activities, but who know Pence even had a bit of backbone in him? I expect he'll be attacked and pilloried by the cult and hounded out of the party now. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60266121Though, as expected the GOP has passed a resolution condemning Cheney and Kinziger for 'persecuting the insurrectionists' going as far as adopting armed insurrection as being party policy should they loose again, saying its 'acceptable political discourse' to try and violently overthrow the government.

Well well well, one of the traitorous scum who was involved in Trumps coup attempt has been granted asylum in Belarus after running like a rabbit to escape justice. What's the betting he's not there to join Putins foreign legion? www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60843262

Not a good luck, but Thomas can't control what his wife urges. Though given the kind of man he is you can imagine him agreeing with her www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-60871794Be hilarious if this forces his resignation though. (not that I think it will)

I'm pretty sure that Clarence and Ginni are fully on the same page here and discuss these strategies over the dinner table.
It's absolutely shocking that he is getting to rule on Jan 6th stuff, in the circumstances.
But the odds of him recusing himself are pretty much zero, and the odds of him quitting are the same.

The Republicans have broken the system in just a few years.
You can now try to overthrow the government after you lose an election and enjoy support from all sides of the "law and order" party. What a f**k**g disgrace.
