As I was stuffing my face with peanuts in the kitchen just now, I got to thinking about why the Scots Nats get on my tits so much. I have lived for much of my life in Scotland and have lifelong friends who are, regrettably, Jocks. That level of warm contempt is mutual, but it occured to me that, when speaking to Scots, I am always generous about the country and the people. That is rarely reciprocated. I think that speaks volumes. It makes you wonder: I've never met a rude or unpleasant Glasweigian, even when pissed. I was routinely insulted and threatened by dwarfs in Morningside, usually for wearing a shirt they didn't like the colour of. I don't think I ever experienced anything other than slightly reserved kindliness in Morayshire. In short, I don't recognise the SNP as representative of Scots.

On the other hand, Scottish Labour are cunts and the Tories are cunts, so by a process of elimination and because some of them are a bit socialist (others most definitely are not, which is another f**k up of nationalism as a supposed political ethos - there's nothing underpinning it so all kinds of weirdoes get to join in), they end up by default being the least bad option.

On the broad theme of Scottish people - most are nice, some are not, like everyone. But there is a national mythology about the English, some of which is based on actual things that happened from Highland Clearances to Thatcherite shitbaggery but most of which is based on trite anger and the fact that the bigger neighbour is bigger. And that can result in an annoying chippiness.
