2022 and 2023 are the two lowest years since 2017, right?
It's pretty grim that the death rates for a decade have been more than double what they are in any EU country. I know Scotland is a deeply sh*t place to live, but surely there are other places as miserable that don't have quite as many drug deaths.

True, I've never been, but I can't imagine that NI is a barrel of laughs either.

I blame the SNP.

They really don't seem to have got anything right , do they? All they seem to have done is put themselves in the "to blame" seat for a failing country.

If I had had to live in Scotland I think I'd need to take drugs to make it bareable

Under the SNP or Labour, yes.

I'm not sure that's true - even if the winters are rough. There's no reason Scotland should be worse than, say, Norway or Iceland or Latvia.
I think that if I had to live with Scottish people then I'd probably be a bit more inclined to take drugs.

And again, I would make the point thar these poor people are an underclass that are regarded as safe to ignore by government.

I wonder if the "there there it's not your fault, Elon Musk made you do it" approach has had its chance?

This is odd. If it was any other group people would be questioning culture - so why no questions about whether Scottish above average drug deaths is due to culture?

They are hugely, hugely bad and always were. Remember how Sturgeon was lauded to the point where she could do no wrong in the eyes of remain types? The SNP were as bad then as they are now but because Sturgeon was remain and not-Boris, they got a free pass. You don't hear much lauding any more.

Stargeon, Sturmer. Funny how you never see them in the same place at the same time ....

Odd how only a couple of years ago, "certain people" couldn't stop singing their praises but now, not a peep. Odd indeed. Queer, even.

"Everywhere outside of London is like a “third world” country, according to the novelist Irvine Welsh. The writer said he considered it a “disaster” that Scotland did not vote for independence in 2014. The Scotsman, 65, who wrote Trainspotting, believes a vote to leave the UK would have energised the nation for years .... He added: “I think that had Scotland become independent, the surge in energy, the building and the infrastructure, the money coming into the country, the novelty of it would have energised the place for a good couple of decades." www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/15/everywhere-outside-london-third-world-country-irvine-welsh/This bloke's living in lalaland. Who does he imagine is going to invest in Scotland? Where is all this energy coming from? What will have changed?

There'd be less money from English taxpayers. It would be fourth world after independence. I like his books but this is just clueless.
