I agree that the Sec of Defense is less terrifying than the Commander in Chief. But the Sec of Defense clearly has a role and does something, and having an idiot fascist in the job isn't great.

Not that I particularly accept the premise of Franco's competence.
Do you mean he was competent at being a fascist? Or that he was a fascist who was competent at being a leader? I'm not 100% sold on either.

He was successful fascist, one of a very few, but not sure that means he was competent.
Anyway putting aside mids and baloos fan boy attitude towards fascists, it's never a great idea to have fascists put into places of power within democracies, unless the aim is to undermine that democracy. And it's pretty clear that is the reason behind many of his appointments so far

Anyway, Hegseth's fascism is only part of the problem he has.
He also seems to have quite the sex-pest allegation hanging over him.
And he has no meaningful experience of administrating anything ever, instead being a cable TV news talking head.
He's not quite as exceptionally unqualified as Tulsi, RFK and Gaetz, but he's not far behind.

I'm not 100% sold on either. I think he was probably best of class in both. He was around a long time, his legacy lasted well into the 90s and he kept to dirty Reds out. You might argue for Salazar, who was very successful in a quieter manner. |

At a MAGA rally, Trump wanted to proudly show how smart they all were so he took a math test. The commentator said 'SIR! what is 10 x 10?'. Trump thought for a while and said '200!'. 'Sorry SIR, that's incorrect'. The MAGA crowd went crazy and yelled out 'give him another chance!' 'Ok, SIR! what is 5 x 5?'. 'Trump blurted out '55!'. 'Ah,, sorry SIR, that's incorrect'. The MAGA crowd went crazy and yelled out 'Give him another chance!!'. The commentator was thinking I have to end this, so he said 'Alright. SIR! What is 1 + 1?'. Trump said '2!'. The Trumpers went crazy and yelled out 'Give him another chance!!'.
