there has been an increase of Christian hate groups targeting Canada, elections most recently, (massive fail as you'd expect) but they target their hate messages to certain groups to try and get traction. I suppose they hate having a tolerant country so close to them, a country where there is not a clamor to ban and burn books, stifle free expression and speech and where for the most part difference is tolerated rather than used to scapegoat and divide.

So far their messages of hate are not getting much more than fringe attention, least not outside Alberta (the Alabama of Canada) and even there its far from a roaring success. Canada remains an open pluralistic tolerant place, and the far right in the US hate having such a place so easily seen and experience right on their doorstep.

However we must be on guard to keep ot like that, these hate groups won't stop, fascism, like weeds, is always lurking and can spread if you're not careful, as we are now seeing in many parts of the US.

There's something deeply ironic seeing the US far right, who routinely ban and burn books, try to silence anyone not them, campaign against free expression, often violently, trying to suggest others don't respect free speech. Especially Canada where we have no governments trying to proscribe thought as is happening in red states to the south.

While such moronic pieces are expected from the POM, children in Canada are afforded the rights under Gillick competence, as are many places in the states (not red states, where governments try and control kids same they like to control women), this is not a move to allow assisted death to suicidal teens, it's about allowing kids, who are deemed competent of person to request an end to suffering from life limiting diseases, presently they can refuse treatments, even if the parent disagrees, the move by the Canadian Bar is consistent with this.

I know the idiot and the far right will always lie about MAID, they are religious loons after all, but it's widely popular here and has alleviated much suffering. All the MIADs I've been involved with have been respectful, dignified and exactly what the patient wanted. In what way does recognizing the truth that biblical morality is a myth equate to attacking religion or religious freedom. No church has been stopped from teaching their version of the Bible or preaching their version of morality, it's just Canada is moving away from using those myths and stories as a basis for legislation and Canada is stopping championing one set of myths and superstition over all others.
