Labour’s share of the vote is five points lower than Jeremy Corbyn’s supposedly humiliating defeat in 2017: in fact, it is the lowest share of the vote for any winning party ever ..... interesting Also looking forward to President Trump visiting Clacton later this year 😉 Our political system truly is a weird one.

It's a shame that, while it's true that the Tories could return with a similar landslide at the next General Election, that would almost certainly be because Labour had made a pig's ear of everything. We don't want that, either.

There were some interesting sideshows:
George Galloway lost his seat. Wes Streating very nearly lost and now has a tiny majority.

Our political system truly is a weird one.
True - but the point of First Past the Post is that we do get a Government. A government that can act. Not a continuous succession of hung parliaments that have to concoct deals to get anything done.
But now for me, after a lifetime of being very interested in politics - at 74 I'm really beginning to say "well fcuk it! A on plague on both your houses."

It's been pissing it down in Sussex since around midnight. I had to have a late breakfast after going up a ladder first thing to fix the guttering at my parents' house. To be fair, I had dislocated the socket while I was fitting a rainwater diverter earlier in the week, and hadn't noticed.
It seemed fitting.

"Donald Trump has congratulated Nigel Farage on his "big WIN" after the Reform UK leader was elected as an MP for the first time.
Mr Farage, who failed in his seven previous attempts to enter parliament, will represent the Essex seat of Clacton after winning a majority of nearly 10,000.
Follow general election results live
The prominent Brexiteer said his new party is "coming for Labour" after he clinched a victory with 21,225 votes,"
This might be the iceberg we didn't see coming.

I still would prefer a government that reflects the mood of the nation instead of minority rule.

I see Labour's share of the vote plummeted to 35% (or something). Starmer must go to the country!

Bad. Some Labour-adjacent Jew haters have won seats. I wonder if it will occur to Sir Keith that this post and the post above it are connected? "Labour has lost a handful of former strongholds to independent candidates campaigning on pro-Gaza platforms. In one of the biggest shocks of the night, shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth lost his Leicester South seat, which had a majority of more than 22,000. The party's vote is down on average by 11 points in seats where more than 10% of the population identify as Muslim. In Ilford North, shadow health secretary Wes Streeting was among those who saw his majority slashed - from more than 9,000 to 528." www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c9e9ydj215yo

Tories decimated, SNP decimated, BLF (REFUK) a damp squib.
Marvellous, the long night is over.

This is where right-wingers pretend that voting for Labour means more migrants…..as migrant numbers did not reach record levels under the Tories.

So the 90% isn’t…
