Oh yes -we definitely need one .What would "news" be without one ? Post your problems here and someone nice and kind will eventually amble along and make helpful and/ or unhelpful suggestions . 1. A friend of mine ( No names mentioned ) Has a comp that keeps cutting out .It probably isn't over heating though that hasn't been ruled out completely .What else could it be down to apart from a fecked motherboard ?

Any hardware component can short and cause the power supply to cut out, from a stick of memory to the power supply itself.
Usual cause is the motherboard though, or a power supply that isn't up to the job, either from age or because the PC has been upgraded with hardware that draws too much current.

it dosnt cut out as such. The screen seems to jump a bit like double vision after too many beers and no cursor. Alt Cntl Del does nothing and its either press the reset button or pull the plug. It sometimes loads up ok but after doing this three or four times it wont load up again. The git started fine this morning though after being off all night. I took it to the witch doctor and he fixed it up with windows recovery consul and it worked fine for about 8 hours before going again .

Memory or power supply then, that's my guess.
Both can cause glitches and freezing as described, which look like software issues but aren't. Both can work fine for a while then play up badly.
Best I can do, I'm afraid.

Ive got a power supply thing on the other comp . That can run for days or months and just suddenly switch off dead. I just pull the plug on that one and it starts up again fine. If its memory ( 76.32 capacity. 69.85 free. Free space 91% ) is there anything that can be done ?

Just try to blink rapidly in sequence with the scrolling screen.
That way it will appear to be OK.

I mean Primary memory, not Secondary. The actual chips, not the hard drive, which I presume is what you're referring to with this. ( 76.32 capacity. 69.85 free. Free space 91% )
Thinking about it further, it could just as likely be the memory on the graphics card too.
All are repair by replacement I'm afraid, but you'll have to get your witch doctor to observe the fault and tackle it from there. Otherwise you'll just be throwing money at parts you may not need.
Then do the cider thing...

You must have a power supply on the one thats switching off regularly as well lol . You might have two fecked power supplies .one on each .Wouldnt surprise me . If it's memory ( which I doubt ) you might have a fecked ram stick or you might just need more memory .Only way to find out is to check .If you have more than one Ram stick you take one out and see what happens .Problem persists -you swop .Problem persists -aint a fault in the sticks lol .Or they're both fecked . LOL.you really should go to the techy thingy and kick his arse and tell him to check the bloody thing properly .Its not a thing you can guess at -things have to be taken out and swopped to see what it is that's causing the comp to cut out.

No, it wouldn't be an issue of needing more. You'd get very different symptoms.

I got another comp after the one I was using would suddenly switch off. The comp man now reckons this is a power supply thing that should be replaced. However it can and does run without this switching off problem for days or even months. You jusat dont know when it'll go off and when it does is easily fixed by pulling the plug and it starts up again. This comp is different as it dosnt go dead off , you still see the screen which is fecked up as in everything is blurred and distorted and its frozen, nowt works. Right what lap top is worth getting ? Theres a Toshiba going for £349 ( can remember which one ) and the comp man reckons he can put XP Proffesional over the top of Vista. Is this a good idea ?

I've slowly come to the conclusion that nothing your comp man says is a good idea .He saw you coming he did .
