Yeah I think laptops are now at the point where they can replace a desktop for most users, and they don't cost much more than the equivalent.
If Angela uses it a lot though, she should consider getting a USB keyboard. Laptop keyboards are alright, but they do wear out pretty quickly, and of course repairing a laptop is always an expensive business.

Of course she uses it a lot ...she has about a thousand friends on messenger that she needs to type to whilst shes talking to them on the phone at the same time .I could give her my old USB keyboard .I bought a new one cos she'd worn the letters off mine banging away at it every time I let her near it .I find that the minute the letters dissappear I suddenly can't remember where they're supposed to be and need to look.

how many usb ports do laptops usualy have I think Angela's has two ..cant remember only looked at the right side when I got her an USB mouse .It might have some on the left as well lol .You dont need a USB mouse anyway ..they also sell conversion plugs or whatever theyre called .I didnt get one cos it was the same price as a new USB mouse lol . You could also get used to the thingy in the middle and not use a mouse at all

I still have one of the first 'laptops' from 1992, a Toshiba, running Windows 3.1 quite nicely! (I am gonna 'sticky' this thread - now please use it for useful banter! )

Oi Hammer while your about Ive got over 3000 email address in MS Outlook Express. I would like to save these to disc etc but theres no way it will let me. I know where they are , in .... C:\Documents and Settings\home\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{28D01B73-D523-4714-AEF8-48F06C1C44E1}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\XXXX.dbx However when I tried to save these , a notice popped up saying windows did not recognise the prog that created them and would I like to try with a prog from the list or let windows search . I chose notepad from the programmes list ( yes I know now ) to open them which didnt work and now the option of using another prog or letting windows search dosnt come up .

I know it was ages ago and has nothing to do with the problem you have now . You had me googling for ages at the time with that bloody outlook and never once mentioned you'd tried opening in notepad and buggered that bit up < mutters and mumbles >

Just noticed this Acer has a PS2 mouse port as well. Never noticed that before. Laptops tend to have at least three USB ports. But some of the bigger ones have as many as six or seven. I still have one of the first 'laptops' from 1992, a Toshiba, running Windows 3.1 quite nicely! If you ever want to sell that Sushi, give me a shout. I know a couple of strange folk who collect that type of thing.

ah right , no it was also ages after I tried saving them. I should go back and see if anything has changed since but dont want to cause the comp another crisis while its not feeling well
